DPF Removal

I have some questions regarding the above for people that have actually had this carried out. I am considering getting my diesel car remapped and having the dpf deleted. The reason I am doing so is for a little more go and to get rid of potential issues associated with the dpf as I may in the future be doing more town driving.

    Has anyone had it done?

How has your car got on during nct tests? I notice it is now outlawed in the UK for MOT's.

Any adverse effects of the dpf removal?

Have you ever had issues with warranty work on the car afterwards?

I have been put in touch with Joe Power by a member on this forum and I am happy to go ahead based on other online reviews and my insurance company is calling me back regarding my cover.

What make and model and year of car is it?
I would be interested to know what your insurance say, as it is classed as a modification to your vehicle, And removal may work out cheaper in the long run as compared to having the system cleaned.

    Open it up
strip out the guts and get it mapped from Joe.
Less restriction has to be good.
If I was keeping my car I would be getting it done.

That is something I don't want to do. I would prefer to get a piece fabricated for the car rather than destroy a working dpf. Seems like a waste if it was needed into the future.

My insurance company will be informed prior to any work commencing on the vehicle.

What tyre of car is it? i can understand you not wanting to destroy a good dpf. I Know a lad that had a problem with a dpf on a 09
Subaru Impreza , lucky the car was under warrenty cause the DPF worked out at €3,000, so i was told.

€3k is eye watering as there is not a need to damage it when a pipe can do the same job. I am more worried about possible NCT issues down the line. It is a Mondeo 2.0 diesel.

I am more concerned about people's emission results post having this done.

Also, possible warranty implications as I still have a year.

    And finally any ill effects.

Is what your better off doing is replacing it with a standard cat from a scrapyard or buy new. You can then sell your old filter to someone. Then get someone to delete the DPF part of the software and then get it re-mapped. There is a noticeable difference between a car with a DPF and without(same engines). There is more turbo lag from the one with the DPF. Removing a filter will have no effect on emissions when it comes to the nct. Your car will actually become more reliable too, less things to go wrong! As for the warrenty Ford may screw you over or they may not, giving the current climate i'd say not.

Id leave well enough alone as long as you are in warranty period

Removing the diesel particle filter will have no effect on the emission test in the NCT. Its only a smoke test they do on diesels and since this only filters diesel particles like soot etc it won't have an effect on the smoke(gas). It only measures the amount of smoke.

for example if you remove a catalytic converter on a petrol it will drive the HC's up and thats a big fail.

    Thanks for your help.

Would you think that there is a possibility that they may introduce another means of testing diesel emissions? It outlaw a dpf for an NCT test?

Even if you remove your air filter for the test?

I have the same car but in 2008. The mondeo's go through a self cleaning process to make sure it doesn't get clogged up or am I wrong? Any idea on how much it costs to bypass the DPF and reprogram? Just trying 2 add up d maths on it towards a new filter!

    Hi

Ive done it on my 1.6 tdci ford focus. Initially got the warning lights and was diagnosed as DPF failure. Went to tallaght Ford and regenerate the DPF and cost me 150euro. Problem reoccured after a week. So decided to remove the DPF. Got it removed for 250euro and passed the NCT no problem. This guy removed it for me SNIP

At the moment the nct centres aren't carrying out any tests on Dpfs but I have a funny feeling there will be in the future.....
Every diesel from 2011 onwards has a dpf fitted default...so I guess there here to stay.

    http://www.rsa.ie/Documents/Vehicle%20Std%20Leg/Emissions%20regs/Euro%205%20and%20Euro%206%20Emissions%20Reg%20light%20passengercommvehicles.pdf

Taken from the above.. The main effect of Euro 5 is to reduce the
emission of particulate matter from diesel cars from 25mg/km to 5mg/km. This will make the
introduction of particle filters for diesel cars obligatory
. Euro 6 limits will mainly reduce the
emissions of nitrogen oxide from diesel cars further, from 180mg/km to 80mg/km.

Thanks for the reply. Anyway, if they enforce the law that all cars that gone through the NCT need to have the DPF then i guess better to get the petrol engine unless they can find better/cheaper solution for DPF problem

Just wonder if anyone has 2009 or 2010 car and passed the nct without the dpf??

Beats me, But I am certain there was another post just above mine as it showed up in my followed threads as new post.

    Why does it worry you?
And no, I am not affiliated in any way to Fermoy Garage.
