Looking at planning a few 50km sportives with the young fella over the course of the summer months.

SKT in August is a definite (although may have a diary clash !).
Any others that can be recommended for a Father & Son spin ?

    Thx

(previous 2009/10 thread has been locked :( )

Did my own mini Tour de Burren today and the weather was perfect. Sunny and no wind:D

For those of you doing the 160km next weekend I noticed a massive (but shallow) pot hole full of loose gravel on the left turn at the pub in Fanore which is near the first climb. I'm sure there will be a marshall at that corner but good to be aware of it.

Also those doing the 108km (as well as the 160km), about 1.6km from Carron Church, after the downhill section, but before Caherconnell and the Dolmen there is a LOT of gravel across the road which my catch people out as it just after the bottom of the hill, on a bend. Hopefully someone will get out with a broom before Sat.

there were no timing chips or numbers recorded, so I'd doubt there will be any official results /timing

sportives ( or cyclo sportives ) are lesiure cycles, no race element, no race finish line, no chequered flag, no back numbers , no teams, no individual team support vehicles. Sportives cycle with each other to get around the long circuit, just to get there

Races are fast and furious , racing against one another to get there first.

frequently mis represented in the press, sportives are frequently called races.

Tour de Kilkenny is a super day out. It's on the saturday of the August bank holiday weekend. Routes to cater for all. Well worth a look.
