Excel 2010 - Embed Pdf

    Hi,

I'm having trouble embeding pdf's into excel. The problem only occurs with pdf's and when I follow the same process to embed other excel/word documents it will work.

When embeding doc's I do the following:
Insert - Object - create from file - browse for file (display as icon ticked, link to file unticked)

However, when I select a pdf I get the message "cannot insert object". I have done this previously with older versions of excel so I'm not sure why it won't let me do it on Excel 2010.

The version of adobe reader I am using is 9.5 and I have disabled the enhanced security in adobe as I thought this may be causing the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated?

To insert a PDF into an Excel 2010 worksheet, do the following:

    Click the Insert tab.
In the Text group, click Object.
In the Object dialog box, on the Create New tab, click Adobe Acrobat Document, and then click OK.
Browse to the .pdf file that you want to insert, and then click Open.

    Cheers for the reply Torqay.

However, I'm getting the following message when I follow your steps:
"cannot start the source application for this object"

Look's like it's a problem with adobe reader but can't find any solution for it.

I've just followed your first steps in Excel 2010 and it worked fine for me. I'm using Adobe Reader X - perhaps this is the problem

I downloaded adobe reader x and tried it again but still coming up with the same problem.

It must be some setting in either excel or adobe that's blocking it.

    Any other suggestions?

    Try this:
    In Adobe Reader:

Goto EDIT > PREFERENCES > GENERAL

Clear the box 'Enable Protected Mode at startup'

(you will get warning telling you that you will have to manually restart Reader before it takes effect)

It wasn't checked - definitely worth the OP checking his setup

Is it the setup in excel or adobe reader I should be checking?

I reckon it's not an excel problem because it will let me embed other doc types (excel, word etc.)

    Adobe

It's definitely a problem with Adobe Reader.

Got any other PDF reader installed? PDF-Xchange Viewer, Foxit, Sumatra? Set one of these as default program to open PDFs and see if the problem persists.
