    Hi all,

We are looking at buying a new mattress.

We think the one that may suit ourselves best is a pocket-sprung one with a layer of foam on top. Not too keen on the memory foam option as herself gets quite hot in bed.

Any advice on good makes? King Koil seem to be popular - what are peoples experiences with these?

    Many thanks,

    D.

    Hi,

If you go and ask the staff they will know which ones would suit your needs. I went Mattress shopping last summer and I know that there are memory foam ones that discipate body heat during the night. So maybe ask about that.

In terms of brands I remember King Koil, Respa (an irish company) and Sealy. These were very comfy mattresses that I found hard to choose between. But I still lay on them in a few positions to check them out..

Know what you want, i.e. soft or firm, know the size you need, 5ft/6ft and then ask for advice.. I went to a few shops and searched for "mattresses" online, I found EZ Living Furniture had a great selection and gave me good advice.

Oh ya, I opted for Respa, but it was a close call:)

    Happy hunting..

If you want value for money ( and I really mean value for money here) then go to Big Mickeys in Longford.

He does next day delievery too,all over Ireland.

Fantastic range of matress,es and he will beat any other store by miles on the price too.

Google Big Mickeys or else search for him here.

Also look in CP Furniture in Eighter,Virginia,Cavan.

I went for a Respa King sized divan bed (4 drawers below) large brown leather headboard and a 10 inch deep Respa memory foam matress.

530 euro delievered to my doorstep.

Cheapest I could find in Dublin was 650 euro(after some haggling),and that was not including delievery.Delievery would have been another 20 euro.:(

Big Mickeys and CP Furniture for the win here.:)

Did something similar to Paddy147, bought a King/Single/Single Briody Endurance PocketSprung mattresses from Stephen at CP Furniture, delivery and old mattress take away was included in the price, Donal delivered them today, brand new, wrapped, 3 year warranty and Irish made. Well pleased with that purchase and great job CP!

I bought from CP too.Donal is a sound man indeed.:)

Less of a drive for us to Eighter than up to Longford.

I was just speaking to Big Mickey on the phone there after reading about him on here.

My intial reaction was I trust this guy. He wasn't trying to sell me anything. Just advising me the best thing to do is come down and spend a lot of time trying out the beds and get the one that feels best for me. He said sometimes people like a bed that's less expensive more than the more expensive one. Also he said that it's really up to the person buying what they like the feel of and not what the sales person thinks they should buy or what the sales person wants to sell :) I really liked hearing all of this. We talked for a good 15 minutes and I was really impressed. Also his prices are insanely low. He said he has hundreds of beds in stock so obviously he has the cheap prices from buying in bulk. Obviously there's more to it than that, but just my two cents for now.

I'm definitely going to go buy something off this fella.

He also goes over to the UK a lot (once a week he told me) and buys up stock from places going into luquidation. I was sceptical given how low his prices are but he is the real deal..

I got a Mattress from Des Kelly Coolock- I am hanging around since 10 am and its now 3pm. So their delivery system is useless. You need to factor in loss of a days pay and add that to the price of the Mattress. They wont even give you a morning or evening time- Best off renting a van , go to the shop, offer 25% less than the asking price and if they agree take the mattress there and then. Maybe a few friends will chip in to the van rent and you could do all the big stuff shopping in a day. Less frustration.
