hi guys i'm pretty new here so if im doing anything wrong let me know, i bought an htc sensation a couple of months ago on three. but somehow they have restricted my ability to tether it or use the wifi hotspot. this is something i realy want to get back. it was the most usefull thing about my htc desire. i dont know how it is being restricted but i want to find out and undo it. is there anyone out there who can help?

i posted a while back but nothing realy came of it. i got sent to xda developers forum but that just confused the hell out of me. hopefully you guys who know what you're at can simplify the process so i can understand

    cheers in advance,

    matt

Ya, that's the trade off with 3's all you can eat data, no tethering. There are ways around it but most of them require rooting your phone.
If it's your laptop you want to use the phone as a wifi hotspot for you can use the ClockworkMod Tether app without needing root. You have to connect the phone by USB cable and you have to download something to your laptop to make it work as well, but this should solve the problem. Have a read through the full description as well though to make sure there isn't anything I missed!
    EDIT:
This may be a slight problem with it!
Tether is a 14 day trial. You will have full unfettered usage for 14 days, after which you will only be able to download 20MB a day. Please buy Tether Premium from the application's menu to unlock the full version and support future development!
Of course you could always root your phone and find some other way around it.

I'm with Three & got a text from them about 2 weeks ago telling me "Get free 3 Wifi with Bitbuzz. Simply download & register at: http://bit.ly/bbuzzA. Search nearby hotspots & start surfing"

That may be an out for you. Hope it helps.

i can get wifi alover the place, in cafes etc, but not at home where i need it.

i dont mind rooting my phone, i just need to know what it entails what the risks are, and how to do it, if i do, will it enable me to use my hotspot?if so, i'd be well up for it. i'm looking to use my all my electronics... laptop, samsung 10.1 tab, wii, 3ds etc.

it's not too bad at the moment because my partner still has tethering on her plan, but she's going away for work for three months so i wont be able to use it.

Mobile data is designed for light browsing, not as a household connection. Its against your contract, could have you disconnected or fined, is cúntish to anyone on your tower(all your neighbours) and will probably push you over 15GB resulting in being throttled.

Get a proper line and stop being a cheapskate.

Is it possible to allow a Three rooted phone become a wireless hotspot?

Why do Three sell these then?

Try my app Wifi Hotspot Settings and see if that works. If 3 have only hidden the feature from the settings menu then it may work via the app but if they're removed it entirely from the ROM then you would need to root.

why would i pay extra for something i was already getting, i dont use it a lot, and wouldnt go over 4GB never mind 15, i dont see how using my connection on a different device has anything to do with my neighbours, i'm not downloading or streaming content, just browsing with a bigger screen and actual keyboard and occasionally uploading a few photos. nothing the mobile connection isnt designed to do.

the option is there in the menu and the laptop conects to the phone, just cant access the internet through it. it only sets up a local conection not local and internet so somewhere in the phone theres something in the way stoping the internet getting through to the laptop/ tablet.
