did you try using a smaller nozzle, could be putting too much fuel into the burning chamber ????

Bring CO2 down. 13% is way too high. Get it to about 11.5% or just under.
Also change your analyser setting to Gross efficiency. To get 95% from a standard efficiency you must reading on Nett efficiency.

    Second that.

+1 13% more or less guarantees soot.

What was the smoke number? I'd agree about the co2 also, it's running high.

should have said nett eff 95 yes gross 88.5 but I'm not too worried about that, tried from 11-11.5% and still even more soot, chamber of this yoke is 650mm diameter by 1200mm deep its a cave so anything smaller than 1.50gph 80s would be like soldering with a zippo and the numbers stated were what buderus call for,so I'm just wondering if the pump or fan acting up only when I'm not there not too familiar with bentone burners

Set it up with a smoke pump so it`s running clean then leave it for a few days. Then come back and tweak it with the analyser.

When you go back to the boiler, in the upper section of the flame chamber, there are small passage ways leading into the top section to the flue. When cleaning this section, you may have pulled sooted back towards you filling these passage ways. A very common issue. Get a small narrow brush and push up from the bottom chamber clearing all. There are many. Located between each sectional piece of the chamber (each side and centre). Then re-analyize to 11.5% and set to Gross.

    What BTU/kW is the boiler?
Nozzle sounds small to begin with,
whats the Co2% O2% Excess Air% Smoke Number Achieved?
where are you taking the sample from?
    detail, detail, detail will help

I agree. Generally they are running on 2.0 60S. They have a long chamber.

I have a Buderus with the same problem. I'm cleaning the optic about every three weeks. Boiler is serviced regularly and serviceman says all readings are correct & efficiency is good for non condensing. ( cant remember the figures)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,677 ✭✭✭shane0007

    The optic?

photo cell, any of ye interested in coming to cork to set this yoke up for me, cash its 10 mins from the tunnel

If you have to clean the photocell every three weeks and he is telling you that all readings are correct and the efficiency is good, then change your service man. It ain't.

Sooting can be caused by many problems, but generally to do with fuel/air ratio or flue. Many make the mistake as I outlined previously. It may have been running fine until it was serviced and then following the service it is sooting. This is generally blocked passage ways between the main chamber and the secondary chamber that leads to the flue. If the service person used a FGA, it would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Sorry, Cork is a bit far for the cost of the service.

Check http://www.oftec.org/technicians/index and ask the questions.

this is a three way boiler there are no holes along combustion chamber

its a 3way boiler there are no holes from baffles to combustion chamber

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,677 ✭✭✭shane0007

I think you will find there is. Between each section part of the chamber, there is a small hole leading to the baffled area of chamber 2. They will be located at each side and I cannot quite remember, there could be some in the middle. How else can the POC's get from the main chamber to the secondary chamber and on to the flue?

With a small soft brush, push up from the main chamber to clear the holes.

i know because i had to put the sections together myself

Then you should know where the holes are. If they are not there, then how can the poc's get through from main chamber to the flue? Believe me, they are there! They are small.

I think you will find he's correct about the flueways in that particular boiler and judging by what ive read here i have to agree with shane and conclude the flueways are not clear enough to exaust the poc's correctly, thus the issue.;)

Pache, no one was for a moment doubting Shane, he's correct.
