Hey Guys I had completed an essay on Weds night went to look for it on my laptop last night and of course it would have to have disappeared! searched my whole laptop and I cannot find it anywhere.:( I definitely saved it and my version of word has an auto save function that saves every ten mins, also can't find the auto-save version of the essay

Anyone any ideas of how I could locate the file?

Go through each folder (documents, etc.) and use the search function if you haven't already. Just search the document name.

Yeah I've done that already still can't find it. I had updates to install on my laptop that evening do you think the updates could have overwritten/erased the file? Thanks anyway!

If you go into the options menu of "Word" (File->Options on my machine),

    Then choose the "Save" Tab.

The path of the folder where your machine autosaves is in this tab.
    ( eg C:\Users\Laptop\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\ )

If AutoSave has been enabled, that's where it'll be.
