Doubt many will care BUT last season's was a cracker and hopefully the 2012 edition will be just as good as I'm flying to Brisbane for it!

Bit of Irish interest as well with Liam Miller playing so worth a look if you're up early on Sunday.

Billy Mehmet too, ex U21 international who's been rattling in the goals for Perth this season.

I wouldn't say 'rattling' in and he's been a sub for most of the season but he has done well for us when called upon!

Brisbane Roar is a pretty cool name. :)

    Enjoy the game.

Think I will get up for this one. Saw Roar last season against Sydney and they play a beautiful brand of football. I also saw Perth a couple of times last season and am amazed by their improvement this year. I have tried to keep up with the league this year since moving back home but have lost track, who are the best team in the league this season?

Well Central Coast won the league aspect of it this year but really dropped off towards the end and lost to Glory on penalties last week. Just further enhanced their reputation as bottlers.

Two of the top three finishers are in the Grand Final so it's a close enough reflection of the season.

Should be a good one so, enjoy it and I hope the Glory come out on top :)

The Roar really upped the standard in the A-league and are responsible for a lot of the improvement in standard and level of entertainment in it. Really love watching them play, would love to see Postecoglu get an opportunity with a big European league. Its hard to say for certain that he would be successful but I would like his chances. I don't know if he would even want that opportunity either.

He's almost certainly going to Victory for next season at a cost of about $1 million.

Great coach alright and talks no bullshit, really interesting to listen to and his press conferences are probably the best I've been to for honesty and insight (along with Miron Bleiberg).

Correct, there is no cup competition to have a cup final but there's plans to bring one in within the next couple of years.

Good, the playoffs thing is an embarrasment.

Spent most of the season watching Wellington. With the exception of Brisbane and GCU, the visitors were poor footballing sides. Wellington werent great either, but its football, init. Crowds ranged from 5-12k, which is not bad considering. Its difficult for franchise based clubs like this with no youth structure and no community roots, particularly ones like Wellington who dont know if they'll even exist in two years time.

i liked the look of the big terrace behind the goal in Perth there, looked decent. Atmosphere was good at Melbourne Victory when I used to go along there too.

What you doing for Perth anyway Xavi?

*edit, meant CCM not Gold Coast

Write the matchday programme. There used to be an A-League wide thing that was sold at each game but it was crap and no one bought it so the FFA canned it at the start of the year.

Obviously Perth has a lot of English, Irish etc who are traditionalists in terms of matchday experience so they decided to do their own and asked me to contribute. Easy gig really and I have a media pass so get whatever access I want to players, manager etc and know a lot of them quite well now.

Nice break from the 9 to 5 job.

Glory, Victory, Roar and a Grand Final? Stupid Aussies with their backward football names and toilet flow

hmmmmm, has he found his level yet? ;)

    Enjoy the game bud :)

Crazy finish, Perth were robbed. Football can be cruel.

Do you get anything for finishing top of the league before the playoffs start?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,468 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Didn't know Berisha moved out to Australia. Seems to be finally scoring now.

Well what to say about that, absolutely devastating stuff. To spend well over a grand on the trip to have it spoiled like that by a combination of shambolic refereeing and pathetic play acting makes it all the worse.

Roar are the best side in the league, no doubt about that, but even their players are embarrassed about the manner of the win.

And as for the fuck up over the man of the match award...

Anyway, here's a couple of pics and still glad I went -

Are Perth still playing in that Stadium in Northbridge, or did they move? I thought I heard they got a new stadium but wasn't sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Yeah they're still at NIB Stadium, there's nowhere else to go.

Glory striker Shane Smeltz is on the mend after needing over 50 stitches to his face from a stray elbow. Played on for over an hour after a quick on the field patch up job but went straight to hospital for plastic surgery afterwards. Nasty!
