We have a 06 model the last few years, heavy on petrol if you do stop/start, school runs etc and use the air-con a lot. Tax for the year is about €600 as its 1.8.

A few small but annoying things went wrong with it over the years and I have just replaced the clutch, mine has 62000kms on it.

Best thing about it to be honest is the reversing camera which my wife will miss when we change.

Not a bad car for a family bus but I would'nt pay more than 3-4 grand for it.

ok so i went to the garage and i can have the car for 1,750 cash and my nissan micra, (my micra is a 3 door 1999 bolero march with 88km on it). too small now for family and baby on way.
New car is a 2004 nissan tino with 77 thous miles, nct till 2014 and taxed till end of may
does anybody think its a bad or good deal? im a real novice and pregnant and dont want to make a fool of myself
he wanted 2k cash and the micra but i haggled down to 1750 and the micra

They are generally a reliable car although the engine would not be very economical. For low mileage though it shouldn't be an issue and would be more suited then a modern diesel.

Window regulators can give bother as can gear boxes but these are in the minority.

Did you ask him what his cash price was on the Tino? If you had the time you could buy the Tino straight out without trading in the Micra and then try and sell the Micra privately, it should be easy enough to sell being small and economical. It probably would be the cheapest way to do it but may take a bit more time and effort. If you don't want the hassle of selling the Micra privately then €1750 to go from a 1999 Micra up to a 2004 Tino doesn't sound too bad to me.

The petrol engine is heavy on juice, it's far from aerodynamic and has a fair bit of drag on motorway. It is only a 5 seater same as normal cars so there is little benefit there. I never saw the market for this machine and having worked in Nissan for a few years I can tell you the sales were disappointing from the start. If I was in the market for a 5 seater family car the Nissan Primera has about the same boot space and interior room ( Remember the Tino is built on the Almera chassis) and the Primera can be got in a 1.6 so cheaper on tax. I can also tell you the Primera Estate is HUGE, way bigger boot than Tino.
Can I ask is there a specific reason for looking at the Tino or is it just the price?

I just like the tino. I looked at primeras but i hate saloons and i couldnt find one i like in hatchback. My problem also is i drive automatic only so i didnt have much choice. i just love the way the tino looks and iys huge compared to a 3 door micra. i know its a big engine, but i drive 5 mins to work a day there and home again. i dont really do long distnace so im not too concerned about petrol yet! the cash price of the tino i got was 3,350/ i got it for 1,700 and my micra. he has my micra up today for 1,800. so i dont think he did too badly its seems fair. im just very nervy about buying things!

Only in Ireland does a 1.8 litre engine constitue as "big"!

1.8 is average size, 3.0 is big!

While I agree the taxation gives that impression moreso than the engine size.
