Deceased Shares - advice needed?

My dad died almost 8 years ago. My mam not very well up on paperwork etc. and gave me a box of 'stuff' she has gathered over the years at the weekend. I came across some correspondence from Computershare where my dad holds some Vodafone shares (approx. 1260).
What would the procedure be to get these transferred to my mother or could she just sell them?
    Thanks

I'm sure she could sell them as the value isn't great. Try to go to 1 of the cheaper brokers as Davy/Goodbody could charge over €100

This could be one for the legal forum. I have a similar issue, but they need to be transferred from my father to my sisters as solicitor never sorted them (not worth much). May need probate to transfer the name to your mother and then she can sell.

Thanks for the advice. as i said my mam not so hot on paperwork and formalities so was hoping she might just be able to flog them!! My dad's estate was all finalised and probated so all is in order but had a nightmare of a time with solicitor dragging his heels at the time so was hoping to avoid having to go down that route again. Might be unavoidable though:eek:

For small amounts of shares you just call the share registrars and they may do it for you for a nominal fee. like £30, or free if the value is very small.
