Hi My wife has been deliberating over this recently the Citreon(1.6 deisel) is more expensive , nicer drive , less luxurious for passengers and boot space... this is 12500, not really budging on price...1.

The scenic(1.6 petrol) is a clumsy drive , comfortable for driver and passengers, plenty of room and lots of extras, but has history of electric problems ie windows/starters..... this is 8,500 reduced suddenly from 10,750...

Both have similar milage and even though citreon is more expensive it screams buy me/ or similar ????

Can't imagine that a 1.6 petrol in a Grand Scenic would be great tbh, but you simply cannot ignore a difference of €4k when the car itself cost's €8500.

This shows the insanity in the price difference that people are willing to pay for the diesel and lower road tax. Work out your annual mileage and that will indicate if you need a diesel. Usually around more than 18k km and you're hitting diesel territory. Otherwise it's gonna be a long time before you see any savings in fuel costs/tax.

Of course reliability and likeability comes into the equation too. Renault aren't known for having great reliability with some cars with electrical problems being quite common. However that engine in the Citroen does not take abuse well, so full service history with that is a must.

Me, I'd take the Renault and pocket the €4k saving.

If diesel is important to you, there is a 1.5dci in the Grand Scenic putting out 106bhp which should be a close enough match for the 110bhp in the Citroen. Mrs Alias has this model and with the exception of changing headlight bulbs I couldn't really fault it.

Hi guys thanks for the info, that really helps, we have the Scenic til Friday to test it , i will let you know how she goes, I drove it earlier, must say I think a good service would probably help with improving the drive and they are offering a 12 month full warranty included.. It is looking more appealing since talking to you guys...

What about a Seat Altea XL? Ford Focus C-Max? VW Touran?

There are other options out there at similar prices that may be a better car in the long term.

I don't think you would be comparing the C-Max to a Grand Scenic and Grand Picasso. The S-Max is another option, although I would hate one with a petrol engine..unless it was the 2.5T :D

An S-Max is a class larger than anything above. No harm in giving other options and leaving them up to the original poster to dismiss.

I would have thought that the S-Max would compete with the Grand Picasso and Grand Scenic and that it would be the Ford Galaxy to compete with the Seat Alhambra and other larger cars like that.

Grandscenic and Grandpicasso are 5 full plus 2 occasional seater, the Cmax and Altea don't even have 5 full size seats.

The 08 Grand Picasso has only been on sale since 2007, the 08 Grand Scenic is the old model and has been around since 2003. The Grand Picasso has more space, more modern practical design and better packaged than that model Grand Scenic. Just avoid the auto Grand Picasso, that gearbox is terrible.

OP have you looked at the Mazda 5?

Took a look at one before the Mrs got her scenic, they're great to drive, the sliding doors are the business but three child seats or even two and another passenger in the middle row doesn't really work and bootspace with the rearmost seats up is tiny.

You are happy to look at a 1.6 petrol Scenic yet say a 1.8 petrol Mazda 5 is a big petrol engine?
