Laptop and slow internet

At first I though it was just my broadband in the new house I moved into; I though the download CAP had been.

Then I noticed that when I downloaded things with Fileserve Manager I was getting download rates of up to 600k/sec but when I tried to download normally through Google Chrome I was only getting 30k/sec for the same file.

I tried another computer and got the higher download rates using the same broadband connection...

Anyone have any ideas what's up?

Broadband rates are rarely consistent. That goes for both ends i.e. your download speed and the targets upload speed.

...I was using two laptops - my own and another.

I downloaded the same file from the same url at the same time on the two computers - mine was downloading at around 40kb/sec and the other laptop was getting speeds of around 600k/sec

Definitely something up with my laptop..
