I know it's another recommend me a series thread but I have a specific request for a series with at least 5 (20ish episodes) seasons and which has finished its run. Something along the lines of That 70s Show or Malcolm in the Middle or Seinfeld for example. Best if it's not too niche humour but still a little more quirky than the likes of Friends.

Always sunny in Philadelphia. it's exactly what you've described.

I discovered it through netflix, and I'm astounded as to how I've lived without it for so long! it's ace.

Freaks and Geeks only got one season before it was cancelled, but there are 18 episodes and it's worth watching. Many of the cast and creatives involved have gone onto Hollywood careers (Judd Apatow, Paul Feig, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, James Franco)

The only ones I haven't seen are Frasier and 3rd Rock but I really hated any episodes I saw of the latter. I'm not sure why, I think it was that asshole with the closed eyes and the stupid voice on 3rd rock that just made me switch off straight away. I might give Frasier a shot.

It's worth it. Quality show, was fond of it when I was younger from my dad watching it and only took to watching it myself in the last few years.. it's great!

    There's always Cheers too.

Also, the US office. It's not technically finished, but it should be as it's gone to the dogs. But the first 5 seasons are magnificent.

I know not 5 season shows but I'd recommend Arrested Development and Community and Cougar Town (both of the later still on their 3rd season currently)and Parks and Recreation (currently on Season 4)

+ 1 also for Scrubs and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Not strictly an outright comedy but Monk might be worth a look too :)

Watched a few episodes of 3rd Rock from the sun also, not a fan. There are literally loads of great comedy series being made in recent times but also some old good ones too.
I'd highly recommend Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Early Doors (only 2 seasons, 6 episodes each but all available on Youtube), Community (mainly season 2), Royle Family, Frasier (on comedy central every day). Eastbound and Down.

I'm currently watching Seinfeld for the first time at last. I'm a big Larry David fan and loving it so far. I've seen an odd episode of 30 Rock and it looks great too.

The US Office has 8 seasons currently I believe and is likely to finish soon, with some of their more popular cast moving to new projects, including Dwight Schrute, who is arguably what is keeping the show going, moving to his own spin-off show about Schrute Farms.

This saddens me. Stupid writers, just let it die with some dignity!

The Wonder Years (6 Seasons) - Probably one of the greatest comedies ever made...

Boy Meets World (7 Seasons) - I think this generally gets overlooked because when it was aired this side of the Atlantic it got lumped in with a lot of teen comedies, despite having a primetime spot on ABC in the US... Its actually awesome...

Married... With Children (11 Seasons) - the first tv sitcom to push any sort of boundaries and it put Fox on the map...

The King of Queens (9 Seasons) - Arthur Spooner... 'nuff said...

Three's Company (8 Seasons) - Incredibly dated at this stage, but hey its good fun and stars the late John Ritter in his hey day...

Married with children is a must, as is King of Queens. Cheers (11 or 12 seasons) has to be in there to and possibly Rosanne (9 seasons) or wings

theres also Grounded for life (5 seasons) and though not 5+ I liked Garry Unmarried(2 seasons) and also Til Death (4 seasons) and Rules of Engagement is pretty good and on its 6th season

Have a look at archer aswell. Its an adult cartoon show.
Think if Charlie sheen played James bond. I only discovered this show a few weeks ago but it is brilliant.
Only 3 seasons so far with 30 odd episodes but I don't think you'll be disappointed.

+ 1 on Grounded for Life and Rules of Engagement, two very good criminally underrated comedies, Patrick Warburton as Jeff is very funny deserves a comedy actor Emmy nomination and win imo

No comedy from this side of the Atlantic mentioned yet?

    Only Fools And Horses
Fr. Ted (personally not a fav but meets the critera)
Red Dwarf (only 6 eps per season but all quality up to Season 5/6)

I think I'll try Grounded For Life. I reckon I've seen anything that's worth watching which is still running or finished in the last year or two but there's bound to be something I've overlooked.

    Everybody Loves Raymond.

    I don't.

The Larry Sanders Show - 6 series. Up there with Seinfeld as far as I'm concerned. Near-perfect comedy.

    Spin City.
    6 seasons.

+1 for Married with Children and Frasier. Both match the criteria in the op. Some true quality regularly throughout their runs.

Also, definitety Red Dwarf but it may not be to the taste of people who are used to American comedies. Absolutely fantastic to me though.

EDIT: King of the Hill is incredibly good television too. Well worth delving into and about a million seasons.

loved that show when Fox was in it.

theres also one called The War At Home, but was only 2 seasons long

I've been meaning to watch Larry Sanders for ages and have all the episodes. I think it might be a hard sell for my OH though. Never like Spin City, hates Everyone Loves Raymond and liked King of the Hill but never got around to watching it right through so will probably give that a shot.
