It's called swinging over the top. It's where you cut across the ball and it causes the ball to spin and go right. Very common in the amateur ranks.

Since you are only playing regularly since Xmas the best solution for you is to go and see a golf coach. Most people don't and end up developing a lot of bad habits with end up very hard to shake. Since you don't have too many bad habits yet if you go see a pro now you will progress quickly.

It's still worth googling or looking at some youtube videos to understand how it works, but going to get golf lessons is the only solution. Do it ;)

Assuming you are right handed - it sounds like you are hitting a slice.

The clubface is probably facing the target but because you are swinging across the ball from outside to inside you are putting sidespin on the ball causing it to turn to the right. In the below pic the red line represents the path of the club, the black line shows where the clubface is pointing at impact. I reckon yours is shown by "F" below.

To fix you need to get the club approaching the ball more from the inside.

If its going straight with only a small tail to the right then u are in my dreamland, i always play better with a slight fade. My advice is to embrace is and aim 5 yards left and watch it tail towards the pin at the last minute!! If its a large slice get a lesson but if not just embrace it.
