    Hi everyone,

I have a question I am hoping can be answered in this thread. I have been accepted into the UCC H Dip and am currently looking for teaching practice. Can anyone tell me anything about Coachford Community College? I realise it is about 30 minutes from UCC but that isn't a problem.

Would you consider this to be a good school to do teaching practice in? Any information would be really appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Zippacat

How bout a 2008 WSE for what it's worth? Here
They also did some subject inspections that year (See end of document)

Thanks! Thats great. Also I was hoping for some advice from someone with personal experience in the school. Maybe a past student/parent of a student or someone who did their teaching practice there.

    Hi,

I'm enquiring about the PGCE from Cork. Is there anyone else that's thinking about doing this next September. I'm clueless about Cork so any help from other would be greatly appreciated. I've got information about my subjects but has anyone done this course already and how did you find it?

    Hi,

I'm wondering if any of you have any advice for me, my school is really not working out .... is there any way to change schools? Maybe it's just that I'm a student(teacher) there but there's a really 'bad vibe' about the place ..... it's in North Cork City (modedit).... any advice would be appreciated!

Good school, battling against not exactly fantastic parental involvement and the environment the kids grow up in.

Yet, despite the odds, they get a number of girls to third level every year.
It's exactly the sort of place trainee teachers should be put into. It's also a long way from one of the worst schools in Ireland.

If you do your PGDE there (and stick the pace), any Principal who has a clue will snap you up for a job as you will have been in the real world, 'bad vibe' or not.

If I were you I would remove the name of the school asap...describe the locality instead and people will understand

I concur. Sticking the pace in certains schools looks great on your CV.

Friend did her teaching practice there and loved it. Teachers there even supplied me with info on TY when we were establishing it in our school. Highly recommended.

It really would not look well on your CV to move schools mid year in the PGDE. It would come across as if you couldn't handle it and put potential employers off. I've never heard of anyone moving during their dip

+ no one will probably take you. I certainly wouldn't mid year.

I asked around my staff room today and the general impression about the school you had named was that it was a great palce to work with a lot of decent teachers working in difficult enough conditions...so Spurious seems to be accurate in his/her summary..try to stick it out dolano...it cant be that bad that it would be worth the hassle leaving mid year (if thats even possible)

I began this thread asking about a certain school in Cork. I just want to answer the question as people may look here for the response.

The original question was as follows:

I just want people to know that I would consider this a great school to do teaching practice in. The staff are extremely helpful and there is a great support system in place for new teachers. I always felt comfortable and knew I had many people to turn to for advice. It is a great school and is a great choice for Dip students. I would imagine that it would be a great school to pursue a teaching career in.

    hello again,

I'm still having trouble with this as I'm hoping to get a school for next year, any advice would be helpful of course!!?

I don't get what you mean by hoping to get a school for next year? I thought you were doing the dip this year?

Not to sound smart but nobody here can help you as much as you can help yourself. I did my dip in cork and i personally handed my CV in to about 40 schools. You really have to be proactive! Good luck!

Both 'dippers' here would be very well advised to be a lot more discrete in their enquiries .Its a small world .At the very least a request for info via pm would have been better in first case ( identifiable username ?asking about a particular school's reputation) and as for second ( saying named school is not working out for them ) are you trying to make yourself unemployable as a teacher in Ireland?!
It's a big band world out there ,tread softly ,lots of principals don't take kindly to having their tails stepped on !
