I am looking for advice on a good pole saw. Looking for a working height of just 2 to 3 metres, petrol and reliable. We have always had and used Stihl saws and found them to be great, I know they do a pole saw I am wondering if anyone has one or used one or an alternative make.

What are they like, what kind of money for a good one and what to look out for?

    Thanks

I used to be a landscaper pre recession, and still have a few saws at home
One is an ordinary stihl pole saw, it's basically a strimmer with a chainsaw head. You can get a heap of other attachments for it, as well as extension bars

The other is a stihl extendable pole saw, extends up to 6 meters, however it is a bit heavier than the other one

If you only need 2 or 3 meters working height the first is your best option, you can always buy 1.2m extenders if its not

As for prices my stuff is all 5 or 6 years old so wouldn't be accurate

stihl are fantastic there are 2 models available
the ht100 which can be bought for about 950 witha haggel and the ht130 which can be bought for about 1050 with a haggel.
they are both 4 meters long and excellent, the 135 is heavier duty duty only in the engine. stihl only make heavy duty, one quality which is good.
there is also the husqvarna new extendabel pole saw which is a very cool piece of kit.
it slides out telescopically. saw it last week when i dropped into the new national husqvarna hq up on the long mile road in dublin (which is a definitely worth a visit). its one of the coolest stores ive ever been in (for any product) didnt think there was such a place anywhere. Very surprised its opened recently as nowwhere like this does at the moment. i thing the husqvarna is about the 850 on offer, very impressive kit, if the engines like the other saws it will be real fast.
we get our stihl stuff from <snip>. big store has everything like this in stihl and prices are very competitive. have a look for theor number on <snip>

Thanks for replies, would probably stick with Stihl. I was in the feck'n Arboretum in LB last Saturday and never even thought of heading into the equipment outlet. I will give them a buzz.
