The path to renewal...

Pope Benedict has said that by pursuing the women priests agenda, it's a "desperate push" to fulfill one's own preferences rather than a sincere attempt to conform one’s life more closely to Christ.

    catholicherald.co.uk/news/2012/04/05/dissent-will-not-renew-the-church-pope-says-at-chrism-mass/

The Society of St Pius X were shunned for being too conservative and for pursuing a line contrary to the teachings of Christ - is it not time to shun those priestly organisations (and individuals) who are too liberal, who are causing confusion and division, are dissenting, and who are more concerned with church politics than the teachings of Jesus Christ?

These priests have taken vows of obedience before God and are now trying to wrangle out of their responsibilities and commitments. Is it now time, as Archbishop Martin has said (with reference to a la carte Catholics), for these individuals to have the courage and maturity of their convictions and decide what it is they believe in and join one of the other Christian denominations?

I've heard a rumour that the ACP plan to escalate their protestations and will boycott the Eucharistic Congress. Why don't they boycott the Church while they're at it - the support of dissident priests is not only a burden on Church finances, but also a thorn in the side of true renewal of the Church into the 21st century.

The ACP, in their call for disobedience are doing untold damage - they are committing crimes against the faith - a crime even worse than the abuse of minors. I don't know how much longer this situation can go on. Some kind of intervention is needed, resulting in a smaller, truer church if necessary.

At Chrism Mass, the Pope said:
Pope Benedict said perhaps such campaigns are motivated by concern for the Church and believe that “the slow pace of institutions has to be overcome by drastic measures, in order to open up new paths and bring the church up-to-date.”

“But is disobedience really a way to do this?” the pope asked.

True renewal must be based on lives that are radically conformed to Christ and God’s will, he said.

Christ did seek to correct errors in human traditions, the pope said, but only those customs that stifled God’s word and will, seeking to eliminate “human caprice” so as to reveal God’s authentic desire for his people.

Being humble, subservient, and obedient to God and following church teaching are not excuses “to defend inertia, the fossilisation of traditions,” the pope said.

The era following the Second Vatican Council showed what a process of “true renewal” looks like, and it can be seen in many of the new movements and ways of life that are “filled with the joy of faith, the radicalism of obedience, the dynamic of hope and the power of love,” he said.

Wise words from one of the world's greatest intellectuals. To express a contrary opinion is one thing, but to openly dissent from the elected leader of the Church on matters of faith and morals shows an arrogance, ignorance and level of disobedience not witnessed in the church for centuries.

Careerist priests in the ACP see the crisis in the church as an opportunity, not for renewal, but to peddle their own failed ideologies. A despicable situation.

A well written piece, plenty to think about.
    Unfortunately this sentence -

The ACP, in their call for disobedience are doing untold damage - they are committing crimes against the faith - a crime even worse than the abuse of minors.

undermines the value of any point to the article. Whatever sins the acp may be guilty of, to compare their actions as worse than the abuse of children, behavior that has destroyed the RCC in the Western world by the way, shows remarkable lack of understanding about the whole point of the Incarnation, about Christianity.
If you were to take out that sentence the article would be worth a proper study.

I think the hierarchies are using the 'dissident' thing to distract from their own failings tbh.
It's easy to blame liberals and dissidents when it's the church institution that has failed.
++Martin telling people if they don't like the boots leave the army and now the Pope telling us that disagreement with teaching is worse than child abuse.
You know what I'm staying just to annoy them. :D

Tommy have you got a source for when the Pope said that disagreement was worse than abuse?

While I totally agree that abuse of children is heinious (being an abused child myself by a family member), the eternal loss of souls is far more graver. False teaching can lead to the loss of souls for all eternity. I think that is the context that the article refers.

1 Timothy 6 speaks against false teachers.

The Orthodox Church often says the Catholic Church has moved away from the Original Faith. The question about the priesthood is quiet clear and it can't be changed.

Many Priests in Ireland have lost their faith, Once you loose your faith then what you replace it with is your own ideology and your own religion.

I think Tommy may have read the op wrong? It seems that was the opinion of the op in his/her commentary on the very few words quoted verbatim from the Pope in the article posted during a homily he gave.

I've never heard the Pope say something that insensitive, and I don't think he would either........

It would be a pretty stupid thing for the Pope to say, if he said it, but I suspect it is merely the OP's opinion alright. Strangely enough, another newly arrived poster made almost exactly the same comment in recent days, coincidence perhaps..

This kind of divisive attitude really makes me sick to my stomach. The irony is actually overwhelming.
