Plotting a one day dash down to Limerick to maybe do in a few weeks to visit a friend, was gonna get the bus... but... any thoughts about this route? I don't know the midlands very well and don't drive so not familiar with the roads really. Not so mad into going the 'scenic' route mostly looking to bash out the miles as safely as possible

another option was to swing down to abbeyleix and in via templemore

    any thoughts?

It seems that the wind typically blows from the south west; so dublin to limerick is likely to be into a head wind ? depending on the weather would you get the bus to limerick and cycle limerick dublin?

yea figured that, I can choose the day somewhat to work around the forecast, but a typical 20km ish wind would be fine

Colm you coming then? It'd be flat, fast and probably would only take 7 hours. Late lunch on the shannon?

We did Tralee to Dublin last year, using the old road, and had no problems with the route, its actually pretty straightforward once you're on it.

Depends on the date, could probably have my arm twisted if it's a nice day.

I'm thinking one of the midweek days after the orwell randonnee, May 6th to 11th, as I'm between jobs that week, but that may change... otherwise it'll be some Saturday at a later date. Thinking a 6am start to be completely free of the city before the worst of the traffic begins and to be in Portlaois for mid morning and Limerick early to mid afternoon if all goes well.

Hopefully doing this cycle in July, I think the wind will be the biggest factor and can my legs and back make it as I have never done this sort of distance be for. This is my route.
