I was coming back from the airport this morning @8.20am and driving southbound on the N7 and just before the Sallins turn off. Up against the central armco barrier there was a dead Deer. Well against the armco and off the fast lane.

    Looked like a Doe.

    Did anyone else see it?

And where would the Deer have come from as I didn't think there was any forests about that part of country?

Good number of deer in that area Clive. Not a million miles away from it myself. They do seem to be always on the move though.

In the past 5 years or so I've seen a few dead ones on the M7 just above Rathcoole near the Blackchurch INN(Naas side)

 Better to have it in the engine compartment than the passenger seat!

Having flashbacks - whitetails bad here in midwest USA, carcasses on the roads every other day after night's carnage. I hit one during rut 2010, still have the antler broken off when its head swung around like a mace lodging in the molding inches from my head. If one appears in your path at full speed, evasive maneuver usually more dangerous. You're lucky if you can lessen impact and veer the car slightly to a better "strike angle". $6,000 damage to my van hitting a small buck.

Some think hunting is cruel. Overpopulation and road crashes are cruel and dangerous.

Deers don't always live in forests as widely believed. They also live in areas that arent heavily forested at all. Like mountains or just thickets.

I can only imagine....must be terrifying.

Frightening shots here of SUV hitting deer (lucky it was a left hand drive!)

Ah that's a shame. I live two minutes from there and have watched a hind on her own most mornings on my way to work since last November or so in the corn fields to the left of the naas road as your heading city bound. Always figured that she must have strayed over to that side of the road and got stranded as I have a good bit of shooting there and have never seen any deer before.

She must have decided to try get back accross to her mates.

    That's a pity now.
