    4.30 Windsor

    Benandonner 16/1

Although doubts exist about if he will be fully wound up for his seasonal reappearance, I think Mike Murphy's 9 year old looks very overpriced. Although he has needed the run in his past couple of seasons, he has run well fresh in the past so at the price I am willing to trust him on this facet. Benandonner races in a Class 4 handicap tomorrow and this represents his easiest task on turf for a long time, and is actually his first run since 2006 in this grade on turf where he finished a 0.25L beaten 2nd on his only start at the track. Last year, Benandonner was confined to Class 2 and 3 handicaps on the grass where he performed well, including a win in a Class 3 event off a 2lb higher mark as well as a very good 2nd in a Class 2 event off a 4lb higher mark and on the basis of that evidence he looks well handicapped. This tough front runner has Neil Callan on his back tomorrow, who has an outstanding record of 4 wins from 10 starts for the very much in form Murphy and thus looks a very good jockey booking. Moreover, on Callan's only previous ride on Benandonner he finished only beaten a length so the pair obviously get on well together. With the flat, galloping track sure to play to his strengths and having shown he goes well at Windsor before, if breaking well from stall 8 and getting a good early position I feel Benandonner could prove very difficult to pass against opponents who are at a lower level than he is used to facing.
