Confirmation Present laptop

My son (12) is about to make his confirmation and his Grandparents have very kindly offered to give him a laptop.
They have asked me to investigate which is the best option - budget around €500.
He (my son) is pretty technically minded like all lads of this age.
Also in secondry school he may have use for a laptop.
My question is what would be a good model for him to last a few years.
Any help appreciated

I usually tell people to stay away from Dell machines, I see too many of them falling apart or batteries dying completely etc.

I like Toshiba / Lenovo or Acer, all seem to have a bit more longevity although some of the cheaper ones can have a cheap plastic feel.

Barely over budget, but a decent all-rounder.

MSI with the very same specs at komplett, well inside the budget, €475 incl. VAT and delivery.

That Acer on Amazon looks great value. An i5 processor like that for £400 (around €486 with free shipping). Some great picks there.
