Buy it , I have last years model and it's a serious piece of kit . Super stiff . Seen the Noah Fast in the flesh last week and am seriously thinking of investing .

Cheers for the input. Really looks well but don't know anyone riding one. Think this particular model is only on limited edition. Its serious kit for the money considering the frame alone is £3,999 with Slane. The Vacansoleil rep comes with FFWD wheels so might see if they'll do them with this instead of the Red wind's. Not sure why its the Chourus casette instead of Record? Might see if they'll throw on a Record!

re the Campag cassettes, the Record is about 15 grams lighter, which is pracitacally nothing, (depending on the ratios). The real differnce is in the price - the Record is about €170/180 dearer . I suspect therefore that the shop may be relucatant to swap the cassetee unless you are prepared to pay the difference.

For what is worth, I use Super Record Mechs / Shifters on my good bike, but use a mixture of Super Record & Chorus Cassettes (the price differce here is even more, c.€225) depending on which wheels I am using and there is no difference in performace. In my opinion there are better ways to spend your money, at least that my opinion.

Nice bike by the way :)

    Well kebel....

Ah I agree with ya mate but was just thinking out load really. Thought it might be nice just to complete the set. I use Chorus 11 on my current bike and no complaints at all with it so no issue!

Could defo spend money better else where....

I agree - i didn't look at what wheels were on it, but a good set of tubs would be a far better investment IMO

The Bike shop in wexford . Frameset only but I think the owner is building it up for himself with the electronic campy groupset . It takes a lot for him to move from colnago .

I wonder whether those might be correlated!

It's amazing how much top-tier frames have gone up recently. A couple of years back they seem to all be around £2500, and now they're up around £4k (I never look at the Irish prices but assume with the euro around 1.20 they're approaching €5k).

The Noah with Di2 is £10k!

Yep, too expensive really , I think I gave about € 2500 for my Noah frameset last year and they've put another 1500 on the price since then . It's hard to look past the deals that the likes of canyon offer . Even though I have a couple of top tier bikes I do often think " is it worth it ? " , probably not .

As a frame it's mad money and with the Di2 it's just crazy but I think the Lotto represents decent value when you consider your getting there flagship fitted with Campagnolo Record and Fulcrums (although they'll be the first thing to change) and good quality finishing kit.

Who exactly is in the "top tier"?

Are you talking legacy brand names who are impervious to contemporary pro-cycling related success? -Colnago, Look, Pinarello...

Giant and specialized et al's most expensive framesets are still around the 2 and half mark (ish). The Canyon effect is probably a lot more influential on the big mass manufacturers, pushing prices down and specs up to compete. Certainly if/when I go to change my bike it's going to be very difficult indeed to look beyond canyon. There are very few others offering 2999 full dura ace builds, and certainly not with the kudos Canyon have amassed in the last few years.

Pro peloton bikes. OK, so that includes Canyon and Focus. The most expensive Canyon frameset of €2k. I don't know that Focus framesets are available separately.

    OK, quick survey....

    BMC SLR01 2012 is £2500 from Evans.
Wilier Zero 7 is €3200 from Bellati.
Spesh Venge 2012 is €3k from mycycle.ie (£2500 UK RRP).

Hmmm, those are a bit cheaper than I thought.

Pinarello Dogma 2 is £4000 from Slane.
Colnago C59 is £3600 from Slane.
De Rosa King 3 is £3240 from Slane.
Look 695 is £4k ish from Slane.

OT what bike was the paris nice winner on this year ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭Dave11

Kicked off a bit of a debate I see....

I see all the points people are making.

No doubt Canyon are fabulous and very well priced but not a fan of Internet sales with no LBS comeback.

I see people's points about costs rising in recent times and Noah frames being bought for 2,500 last year. You still get them at that price.... Remember I'm looking at the Noah Fast! It's groundbreaking technology and pretty sure only manufacture using it so your gonna pay the premium for it.

    We'll never agree on this!

There's no need for consensus. Manufacturers charge whatever they think people will pay. If you love it then it'll be worth it!

I just think it's interesting comparing the different prices.

I'm not sure about all the claims of new technology in the Noah Fast , every manufacturer makes claims about various things when a new frame comes out and 12 months later it's superceeded by the next frame and the next claim . Obviously the brake set up on the fast is different but some of the reviews have been less than glowing , stating that the braking isn't as predictable as ordinary brakes and can be very severe . Still want one though.

But I think realistically when i sell one of my bikes I'll be going for a Canyon next .

Myself included. I had been waiting patiently for the Planet-X N2A but their lack of information and progress has been amazing (no new photos of other frame colour, no XS or S in stock or reason why).

The more I cycle, the more I realize that, while it's nice to have nice things (and I place your Ridley Noah in that category), legs are what matter. Like Lumen says, if it makes you happy, it's money well spent.

    Let me share a story:

I work with a guy called "Mario". His name is actually Marius, he's a Lithuanian chap fluent in a number of languages but his english is quite basic. He's called Mario because he is a professional bike rider for an Italian team.

Mario racks up a lot of kms in training, about 25,000km a year in an "average year" he says. Being in Australia for only a short time and with not a lot of money, Mario only had a bike for getting around on. It was a really old and crappy looking Avanti hybrid. Something like this, but older and crapper:

    5341821_20.jpeg

That bike must have weighed about 15Kg.

Anyway, Mario only has this bike for getting to and from work, but he really wants to train. So, he heads out one morning on the Velosophy shop spin from Moore Park. It's about 75km with the "A graders" (equivalent to our A1/A2) and they roll around a hilly course in the mid 30s. When Mario turned up, no one would talk to him because he was in full lycra, hardly spoke a word of english and was riding a POS hybrid. Out the back, never to be seen again, right?

No, Mario ended up dropping everyone on every single climb that morning. At the end of the ride, everyone was asking him who he was, the manager of the store wanted to give him one of their bikes to train on.

Mario said he couldn't keep up when they finished up doing laps of Centennial park because the gearing on the Hybrid wouldn't allow him to keep up with the bunch.

I still want nice bikes and nice kit, but I've started to believe less and less the manufacturers hype about new technologies that can save me watts and make me win races. At the end of the day, it's the legs (I don't have) that make you fast.

Cycling is now the number one global sports market accounting for nearly €33 billion in 2010!

So as long as demand exceeds supply...

100 % agree with Dirk at the end if the day it's about the legs, but it's nice to have nice stuff.

Great story Dirk, reminds me of a certain Mr Landis....
