Sick and can't sign on

I need to sign on for jobseekers benefit, but as I am ill, I won't be able to go into the social welfare office for at least another week. What is the procedure in terms of signing on as soon as possible? Is it back-dated, once evidence is provided re sickness?

Also, is there a helpline phone number, as the welfare office is hard to get through to on the landline?

I think if people are not going to show up because they are taking to holiday week they have to notify SW I think so if you are ill and can get down there go but if its exceptional circumstances and you literally cannot get down there I would hope there would be some procedure ring citizens advice in the morning.

If your too sick to sign on then you need to go to the doctor who will then get you to fill in an illness benefit form, as you can not be on JSA or JSB when sick, illness benefit will then pay you until you get better then the doc will sign you off illness benefit at which point you go back over to the social welfare office to sign on and explain what has happened....simples :D
