Recently Saorview announced a link up between themselves and Macra na Feirme and Muintir na Tire in providing information to the rural community
SAORVIEW PARTNER WITH MUINTIR na TÍRE & MACRA na FEIRME

SAORVIEW has met with key representatives from a range of community and voluntary groups, churches, charities, representative bodies, sporting and lobby groups, to alert them to the digital switchover and how this may affect their constituents or clients.

Some of those who are most likely to be affected by the switch to digital are older, living alone, living in rural areas and members of the farming communities.

SAORVIEW is therefore delighted to have partnered with Muintir na Tíre and Macra na Feirme who are going to use their extensive voluntary networks and strong regional footprints to directly identify vulnerable householders within their own communities and ensure that they have all the information and advice they need to make the switch to SAORVIEW.

    ...

Both groups have now had direct training and been provided with a toolkit comprising checklists, information leaflets, a presentation and DVDs. Over the coming weeks and months, our partners will be rolling out extensive local information campaigns through Community Alert and Macra volunteer groups across the country.

I'd say there'll be households out there on Oct 24th who'll be without TV no matter how much switchover information you push at them. The final three and a half weeks in Oct leading up to ASO will require a big information push.

I'm finding that most people know about it, but are v broke and will leave it to the last minute.

True, but the problem I found from talking to people is that they are under the illusion that they need to buy a new tv or subscribe to pay tv.Many just need a box and don't even need a new aerial, many of the target customers already have aerials in place since TV3 went on the air and more often than not they are perfect for Saorview.Just look at what happened on the Ear To The Ground segment,a new aerial was installed while they failed to mention that the one already up was perfect for Saorview reception.

The info campaign has been woeful,it's no good telling people who only know about pressing 1 to 4 on a remote to go online and visit the saorview website, they may as well be asked to fly to Mars.Simple plain language is best, look at the UK ASO campaign,it targets the older members of public using informative ads using no jargon.

A good idea would have been to bring the likes of Macra on board a year ago and each branch have somebody trained up to answer any questions, even parish newsletters could have had something on the topic in plain simple English. The powers that be in Saorview made a balls of the info campaign and are trying to rescue the situation at the last minute.

Misinformation & masses of tech speak just cause the public to zone out and this lets the rogues exploit them.Guys like Scaller have warned them (Saorview/RTE) numerous times over what's happening at ground level but they ignore the advice and we see the result of this in various threads here, the pictures alone in them speak volumes.

Agreed (though whether people are actually as short of money as they claim is of course another debate).

When we see that roughly half of households did not pay the 100 Euro household charge for this year before the legal deadline and so were willing to 'break the law'.

The 100 euro household charge for this year is less than the costs of Saorview installation for many/most people, and considerably less than Saorsat for those who will need it, yet so many people have had such hostility to paying it.

Take it to Politics if you wanna talk about the Household Charge.

An ad for Sky installs on Highland Radio this morning gave that impression too:mad:

IMHO, as an ordinary TV consumer, the best place for a Saorview campaign is on the TV itself. Regularly, little, often and in small bites. Absolutely guaranteed to reach the people who need to know. Should have been happening for months.

There's a Sky ad on TV suggesting this too. "Be prepared for digital... with Sky" or similar. Saw it on RTE earlier. Definitely doesn't help.

Just goes to show what a wonderfully non-performing shower Saorview management are:(.Being shown up like this by $ky:(. $ky are now advertising on most of the local radios with far better attention-getting adverts than dopey P.J. & Tommy will ever attract:rolleyes:
