Planning permission for person with Physical Disability

    Hi boarders,
I'm hoping someone out there can help me out with something.

I have a physical disability that severely effects my mobility. I'm not wheelchair bound now, but my condition is progressive and I possibly will be at some point in the future.
    I have 2 questions:
Are there any breaks available with respect to planning permissions (probably in Co. Meath), for a new new build house or adapting & extending an existing cottage, for example.
Is there a grant or financial assistance available for same?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

I'm not sure what the situation is in relation to planning permission but the county council used to have a grant towards making alterations towards a house if a person had a physical disability. You needed an occupational therapist, usually from the HSE to confirm what alterations were needed and a grant was paid towards this.

This will give you an idea of grants available for adapting houses.

I'm not sure what the position is in relation to providing grant assistance for a new build. I'm not aware of any grants but that's not to say there aren't any.

Planning regulations usually apply to all but what I can say is that here in Donegal the PA would usually take a sympathetic view on any application for adapting a house or building a new house in these circumstances. Someone with experience of planning in Meath may be able to provide some advice.
