Can anyone doing the course at the moment tell me anything about what it's like? Thinking of doing it next year as I want to become an airline pilot in the future but I'm starting to wonder is there any point as it seems to be aimed mainly at the management side of things.

    Thanks.

im currently in the second year in the course about to start my work experience placement in the summer for six months i enjoy the course, it is very slow to get going in first year but secind year is much more interesting and more aviation related modules.

i plan on going down the pilot route in the future but i wont have the money to do it in the 4th year of the degree as it will cost €100,000 thte schools that dcu have picked are PTC, Jerez, Oxford i already have my ppl and 100hrs flying so am in no rush to get my frozen atpl, after the degree i hope to get a few years operational experience while saving to then go do my flight training.

my advice is if you have the €100,000 to do flight training go do it forget the degree but if you like most of us dont and have an honest interest in aviation its a good course, if you think your going to come in and be playing with airplanes all day your wrong sadly a few people on my course honestly thought that would be the case !!!

Can I ask where are you doing the six month work placement? No, I won't be able to play the 100k either, I'm in the same boat as yourself. Kind of hoping Aer Lingus or some other Airline will run a cadet ship again in the coming years. That's doubtful though.

Do you plan on saving up the money by working in aviation management after you've completed the course?

the placement hasnt been finalised yet so i dont know is the honest answer, there has been a few leasing firms such as awas, cit and interest from ryanair in their Stansted base in flight op's... as for my plans yes i plan on graduating with the management speciality and then after a few years working do my flight training or even do it modular after i graduate thats the plans for most of us as regular joe's cant get the finance off the bank to pursue the flight training element
