A few mm here and there make all the difference

Something that always amazes me is how the eye picks up on minute size differences between similar watches, even though they look the same on paper

    Example:

Vostok Komandirskie, 39/40 mm diameter, 18 mm lug width.
This watch looks ok on an 18 mm strap (left)

The one on the right however doesn't ...(Vostok Amphibia)
It's basically the same watch (same diameter) but made of stainless steel and 200m waterproof. Therefore it is a bit thicker overall (more domed crystal, slightly thicker case, more domed and thicker caseback) and all of a sudden the 18 mm strap looks weedy on it.

Put it on a 20 mm strap (notched to fit between the lugs) and all of a sudden it looks so much more substantial as the strap is wider, a teensy bit thicker and just complements the watch.
