Hard to know really but where is the ball in your stance? Closer to your left leg (if right handed) or in the middle? Try moving the ball back in your stance and see if that helps

    It's most likely your alignment.
If your right handed, I'd say you might be aiming left and then hitting the ball with an open face to compensate. This is probably why your getting so much height.
Very easy fix if this is the problem. Just put two clubs on the ground one at the target and one parallel. Square yourself up and hit a few shots you should see an immediate improvement .

I hit my irons high too, along with woods. Reason being is that just at the point of impact, my hands are behind the ball.

Your left arm and club shaft should form a straight line as you strike the ball, where as mine, there tends to be an angle of about 20 degrees or so. Proving hard to fix for me.

Try hitting some punch shots with a nine iron with the ball positioned just inside your back foot. This will get you used to having your hands in front of (or on line with) the ball at impact. It should also, in theory, encourage a better strike on the ball as you will be hitting it into the turf rather than picking it clean.

Cheers Benny Cake- pretty much told the same during a lesson. Just finding it hard converting that punch shot into a full follow through - tends to look a bit Bubba Watsonish.

I've been dogged by this for years. My drives go a decent distance, but I'm often taking more club going into greens than my playing partners, I often have to hit three quarter 9 irons from positions where most others are taking wedges.
    Thanks for the tip.

I'm far from an expert but could it be the irons you are using? I know some irons are offset to try and help the player get the ball in the air.
