Anyone here on boards that got their hands on this one?

    Vodaphone Uk PAYG

My ZTE Blade is running on its last legs, but I liked the whole experience of buying a cheap PAYG phone and changing it to Cyanogen. The hardware on this is even better for the same price.

I am not sure if you can unlock this, put a custom ROM on and how the phone itself is.

Was thinking of recommending this to my Dad as he wants to make the jump from dumb phone to smart phone, but isn't ready to pay the premium that entails just yet.

Hopefully a few reviews will crop up over the next few days. Looks good spec wise but that doesn't guarantee that it's a good phone.

Unlocking it may take some time depending on it's uptake. No one is going to waste their time hacking a rubbish phone, same goes for porting cyanogen mod.

Type TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
    Size 480 x 800 pixels, 4.0 inches (~233 ppi pixel density)
    Multitouch Yes
    Good
    microSD, up to 32 GB
    Grand
    Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread)
    Grand

66 Reviews on GSM Arena too, 7.5/10 across the board. Seems like a good starter phone, I'd say go for it.

Thanks for that, I guess it is slightly too early to buy, need to wait until it can be unlocked and flashed with Icecream Sandwich.

Though I think an upgrade to ICS was promised by Vodaphone (but it would be Vodaphones ICS)

Historically, I think that one of the limiting features of a lot of the cheaper Android phones has been internal memory for apps. Wasn't an issue 3 yrs ago when there weren't too many apps you'd want.

My wife has a desire on 2.3 (won't let me root it and put on A2SD) it isn't even a budget phone but can't put many apps at all on it

Would also add lack of flash to that of those lower end devices.
Anyone know if this processor can have flash ?

The spec sheet says it has an Qualcomm MSM722A processor. According to this, it's a Cortex-A5 so Flash should be fine.

specs of this phone are not actually really low end at all..
app2sd will defo work on this one (just check xda developers sometimes).. and i believe that most of the users will go with cyanogen or will just use some fresh cooked rom (obviously rooted)..
i think this is a great buy.. if you know a bit about android, u can make it really excellent..

as for desire: Manage Applications > click on your app that want to move to sd/usb storage then click Move to sd/usb storage. Simple, no root needed, built into android 2.3.. or in case u really want to root it, check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119

Ah I've done that, but a lot of apps either won't let you move them, or still keep 1-2mb on the phone which seems a bit pointless.
Other tip of course is to clear app caches which I've done.

Yeah I agree, could be good phone with cyanogen.

I'm using CM9 myself and it runs great, just waiting for themes to become more integrated.
