Splinter cell HD is on sale on the PSN at the moment. I played Chaos theory to death on the PS2 but never bothered playing the first 2. I will prob pick up chaos theory anyway as my PS2 is up in my parents attic these days, just wondering is it worth getting the other 2. I have read that they feel archaic against chaos theory, though if they still have the whole light/dark stealth action it might be worth trying out.

The original Splinter Cell is one of the hardest stealth games you'll play. Chaos Theory was much easier IMO. Excellent game though, the missions are perfect and really require some thought to complete (CIA HQ took me nearly a week :D). Never got to play Pandora Tomorrow so couldn't tell you what it's like.

I think I know what you mean about chaos theory. It was very forgiving when breaching alarms etc. I used to replay mission just to try and do them perfectly. By the sounds of it the original chaos theory sounds like it would suit my personality. Slow, patient etc.

Splinter Cell can be very unforgiving. Getting spotted or making a single mistake is usually certain death. Very rewarding though when you finally get it right.
