Just got word that it will now become mandatory to wear a mouth guard in football games and training - applying to underage from 2013, and adults from 2014 under motion 30 with 86% of delegates voting in favour

Motion 27, which proposed a compromise to the ban on collective training in November and December, was carried by a significant majority. Eighty-four per cent of delegates voted to change the current timetable for inter-county teams returning to training over the winter months.

That Rule 6.44 Closed Period/Collective Training was amended as follows:
“Senior Inter-County panels may return to training for a following year on a timetable determined by their time of exit from the All-Ireland Championships in a current year as follows:
Exit June; Commence Training November 15th
Exit July; Commence Training December 1st
Exit August; Commence Training December 8th
Exit September; Commence Training December 29th

There shall be a mandatory closed period for games and collective training of all Senior Inter County panels from December 21st to 28th inclusive. The months of November and December shall be closed months for games and collective training for all other Inter County panels.

About time they brought in that gumshield rule, and those changes to the training ban will be excellent if the weaker counties can use it to their advantage.

There is a link on this page to a full list of motions/amendments: http://www.gaa.ie/gaa-news-and-videos/daily-news/2/1404121102-gaa-congress-2012-morning-motions/

Rules 32: Referee can consult with a linesman or umpire in order to establish matters of fact. Includes validity of scores. - that is something that really needed to come in!

Motion 31 Carried: Attacker can enter square before final play of ball in play and before ball enters square in set play

these all come in for tomorrows games afaik

The old squareball rule during set play will still be applied according to rte.ie
Under the new rule, a player may enter the square before the ball in open play. The old rule, under which players can only enter the square after the ball, will still apply for set play
Also, why does it take so long for the new mandatory gumshield rule to come into effect. Why not have it introduced in 2013 for senior players, or even earlier?

Pardon my ignorance but couldnt he do this already? Like asking an umpire if it was square ball, asking linesman about fouls etc..?

    Also saw this
The number of delegates in GAA Congress will be reduced by one third. Defeated.
Sure you'd hardly expect them to vote themselves out of their big weekend away! :)

There was a lad sent off recently for doing something the referee didnt see in the first place and attention was drawn to it by another official.
His suspension was overturned as the official overstretched his duties by calling attention to a foul that he didnt see in the first place.
This rule is just to close this loophole.

the only power the linesman had was to spot off the ball incident and report it to the referee. The new rule gives the linesman the power to be consulted with regards the scores now
