Have a few hours free tomorrow morning in Lahinch. Any nice routes starting and finishing there?

Can't go too far wrong following the coast. Head for Liscannor, up the Cliffs of Moher, down to Doolin and take the coast road to Fanore and Ballyvaughan. Come back then the Corkscrew and Lisdoonvarna and Ennistymon and back to Lahinch.

The top of the Corkscrew to Lisdoonvarna is newly resurfaced and lots of downhill and is frickin AWEsome if you've the wind at your back! :)

I'd second that route - have done most of it except the Cliffs part. The road surface along the coast is utter ****e, but from Ballyvaughan to Lisdoonvarna is fantastic. Should be great weather for it as well.

I'll 3rd that as well... Its a nice 50mi/80kms.. Done it myself recently.. Top of the corker is like a reward for all the effort.. Its like a magic carpet and is really lively surface.. Just brill !

Just remebered as i was cycling up corkscrew hill last night there were signs saying the road was closed for some motor rally. Was definitely closed for today (sat) - can't remember about Sun. The other hill from the Dolmen down (R480) was going to be closed on Sunday, so maybe it was one day each, but it would be worth checking out before you head out.

Followed the Route as suggested. Perfect hangover cure. Was a bit of a grind until I got around Black Head but that served to wake me up.

Had been around part of the route last year in the opposite direction but this was my first time up Corkscrew Hill and it took me an abysmal 9 minutes. I'm blaming the drink the night before. Would love to give it a few more goes though. Was fun to climb.

Yiz are right. The road back from the top all the way to Lisdoonvarna and beyond is like a dream. I was belting along, grinning like a crazy person, the surface was so good. Wish some of the hills in Wicklow were like that.

80k in just over 3 hours. Hangover cured. Thanks for the pointers folks.

There is a sportive starting and finishing in Lisdoonvarna on Saturday May 5th using that route. Last year it was 25 degrees. The Burren Cycling Club run it on behalf of a different crowd.

You mustn't have been feeling too bad at all, that's a great time on your own. Very exposed route with a good bit of climbing. The roads around Clare can feel awful dead sometimes too, whatever it is about them.

It's a great little circuit that though.
