Council House - What happens when children grow up?

I'm trying to find out what happens in the case of a large council house where you have say 2 adults (parents) and 5 kids - 1 over 18.

If the kids grow past 18 does the council move the family on as in reality what could happen here is in 10 years there would be an empty house populate by 2 people if say the kids moved out?

Would the council move the family to a smaller house to accommodate a large family they have to find living arrangements for?

Any advice as to how this normally works would be great.

My brother and I have moved out of three bed Council house, leaving just the parents behind.

My parents have said that when they become too old to manage the stairs, they'll look to be moved to smaller unit.

I reckon in the future, Councils will look to move people according to their needs.

Anyway in answer to your query - Councils don't move tenants to smaller units just because family situation has changed. The tenants would have to approach the Council first if they wanted to move (and presuming there's a unit to move them to).

As a single person or couple you're only entitled to a one bed apartment but I'd be interested to know if they actually move people out. I've never heard of it probably because where I'm from the council wouldn't have a lot of one beds to move people to as they usually house families so the parent(s) still live in the house but then again in a lot of cases people that I know have lived with their parents a lot longer or moved into social housing themselves.

In the UK I think they have moved towards trying to move people on from council housing and deeming people no longer in need, over here the income limits are a lot higher although the way things are going here and the demand for housing I do believe they are going to get stricter but I've never heard of people being moved out of their accommodation for that reason but that doesn't mean it doesnt happen probably more so in more populated areas.

Seems like a huge waste of resources having only a couple in a 4 bedroom house.

But hey just the type of genius you'd expect in this ****hole of a country.
