I have an issue which Dwyane is looking at on vodafone forum, where by at work i connect to internet via Vodafone wifi and at home Eircom wireless. The eircom is fine and having no issues with this, but the vodafone has failed to get me online for the past 4/5 days. The connection monitor says connected but, a message says "Windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy server".Given that, it works as normal with Eircom, I am reluctant to change much with laptop, which is 2 months old and flying, as my suspiscion is its Vidafone related. Any thoughts?

From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
Select Network and Internet and select Internet Options (in Classic View, open the Internet Options control panel.).
    Click the Connections tab.
    Click the LAN Settings button.
Clear the "Automatically detect settings" checkbox.

Also make sure that "Use Proxy Server..." is not selected.

If you are regularly connecting to networks with different settings, you should get a connection manager (i.e. NetSetMan, free for personal use) that allows you to switch between connections without having to change the settings.
