    Hi guys.
Trying to decide on my new kitchen. I like the look of high gloss black but the other half is sold on the high gloss magma.

    Any experiences or opinions?
    Could we combine the two?

Best bet is pop around to Cube, Inhouse etc. Lots of kitchen retailers out there, only one I wasnt mad on is kitchen world

What did you decide on rocketman?
We are thinking of going with black high gloss but not sure what worktop will work with it. Hoping to get a wood surround aswell.

Still haven't decided Nemo. We will probably go with black high gloss as well and the wood surround. I really like that look. Not sure re worktop. I saw a few nice wooden laminates so considering having the same wooden worktop as surround. We will have wood floor as well so must consider how that will combine with the wood surround.

Have you got any deisgns or who have you been dealing with? PM if you want

We got a quote from KitchenWise/Kube/In-House centre and a freelance guy who works for himself. Wouldn't mind getting a price from Eco aswell as I have seen some good reviewse
Kitchen-Wise are the most expensive at the moment, Inhouse and Kube a close second. getting alot more for our money with the freelance guy but because he doesn't have a showhouse you need to trust the references.
Kitchenwise are around a long time and really know what there doing but seem to charge for it.

I would love the wood worktop but it's too much work to mantain so I have been told and OH wants to go with quartze so we are looking around for prices on that at the moment.
I am worried that we will have too many colours going on. Black units, wood surround and off white/grey top and then porcelian tiles. I was thinking black top but think it might be a bit too dark. So hard to picture it all in your head, isn't it?

Have you gone to many places for quotes, seen any designs?

Just received working drawings today. I will be trying to get designs next weekend. I have been to Kube, Tierneys, Eco and a couple more. I must say I was very impressed with the woman who spoke with us in Eco. Think her name was Triona. Their showroom isnt great but they have a cool 3D room that puts you right in your kitchen. That should help when its comes to final decision. I have changed my mind a few times so far its very hard to decide.
I know a very good local guy who has done kitchens for a couple of friends but like your guy he has no showroom or any fancy 3D gadgets. I will hopefully get design off one of the big stores and let him work off this. Although I know shops are very slow to let their designs out the door. SOmebody mentioned paying €100 to take design away with you not so bad if it is the one you want.

Im going to throw this into the mix.

    Solid Italian marble tiles (600 x 600 x 25mm) with brown marble border (600 x 200 x 25mm)

Cream kitchen with 40mm thick dark wallnut worktops. All appliences are built in (even the condensor dryer).

Backspalsh and window cill tiled with 50 x 50mm light brown tiles.

Kitchen walls painted in grey, green and red.

    Something different,I hope.

Yeah that's our idea aswell I think, hoping to be able to explain the lay out etc without having to pay for the design. It's a pretty simple L shape with island.
Best of luck, will be great to hear what you went with in the end :)

You dont pay anyone for a kitchen design. Its FREE.

The various kitchen places will sit down with you and make up a CAD design for free. They will give you several 3D copies, floor plans and scaled down dimensions too.

Its their job to do this and try to get a sale too.

All you need to do is measure the height, width and length of the kitchen,so that the kitchen shops can work with these measurements and do up the various 3D designs and floor plans..

Thanks again Paddy. I think when i get the drawings that Paddy showed there it will be much easier to decide on colours worktop etc.Paddy do you think it would be possible to email the kitchen dimensions to Kube etc. without calling in personally? And get them to do up a design? I have spoke to a few of them so I could explain I already called in to them.

    I would say so.

I mean, you are a potential customer to them, and I dont think they will turn you away for asking to email them drawings or measurements.

I will say this much.....doing up a kitchen design sometimes requires a person to person meeeting and input from the customer too.

That way designs and CAD drawings can be tweaked there and then and you get the right design 1st time around.

I had 2 person to person meetings with In House over my kitchen floor plans and designs, and they got it spot on.All I did was supply the measurements of the room/kitchen area.

Perfect fit on instalation day and everything went together loke clockwork.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

    Regards.:)

    Hi Rocketman,
We went down to Kube with our measurements and we asked if they could call us back with the price and mail us the design but they said they couldn't do that and we'd need to call back down in a week or so when the design and quote was done up. They done a great job and the pics are as good as photos but they did insist on us going down to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 rocketman2010

Ya i guess it would be best to call in. I'm down the south side of country and won't make Dublin for a couple of weeks. Thanks again Paddy and Nemo:)

Does anyone know if the Kube showroom in Cork is any good?

We went to Newcastle Design in Wicklow and got them to design the kitchen as per the bosses instruction. They gave some very good advice on smallish changes that made a big difference.
We paid €100 to take all drawings away (refundable if we bought kitchen from them).
Then we sent this design to 10 other kitchen suppliers to price up.
In the end we went with local independent (non showroom!) guy who was substantially cheaper than all others and we're delighted with the outcome.
    Best of luck.

    ,

Alot of the places that do up the 3d design etc will not give them to ya even if you ask. Which I think is fair enough considering they done all the work and you are going to walk off with there design and get it cheaper someonewhere else.

Don't get me wrong, it would be great if they would give them.. save me alot of hassle :)

Alot of places do give them to you for free.I would never pay 100 euro for a set of kitchen drawings, especially if that company want my business and my money.

Some companies are just plain greedy and chance their arm with matters like this.

I got drawings for free from.....Ikea,In House,Tierney Kitchens,A1 Kitchens and Kube.

I sat down with all of them in person.

I visited Newcastle Design in Rathnew and I didnt like their attitude towards me...."show us your money 1st and then we might deal with you.".

Stupidly overpriced too,as far as I was concerned.

    feck off.

Drawings or designs? Kube gave us the 3d designs which I was delighted with but they were only the first draft so there is loads I would change now. In House only gave me a quote and kept the drawing themselves, they worked out too expensive anyway. Wasn't impressed with Tierneys, went down gave them all the measurements and what we wanted and they said they would do up a design and send it onto us, they came back with a black and white drawing with a shaker kitchen price and said anything else would cost more than this.

Might try Eco Kitchens this weekend because I have an idea cemented in my head now and it would be great to see a 3d design and get a solid price.

As the saying goes there are numerous ways to skin a cat.... You seem to be happy with your kitchen and your buying process. I was just letting others know that there is another way. I would not say that someone charging for their time and design expertise is a 'chancer'.
If you ask my Mrs she'll tell you that it was the best €100 she spent in the house.
We're going off topic here so will leave it at that ....we did get a high gloss kitchen by the way!

I would say it is because at the moment being that we are too very undecsieve people I would pay the 100€ if I had too :D

So tell me, what colour did you go for on the doors and worktop? Do you have any pics? Would love to see them :)

If you want to go through some kitchen layout options in your head you could try IKEA's kitchen planner software. You can get it from their website. It only uses IKEA components but it would give you an idea.

If you are interested in a high gloss handless kitchen, SpringHill have a new model called the Horizon. I just saw it in their showroom. It's not on their website. It's beautiful.

No connection to SpringHill whatsoever. I was only in looking at options for a utility and bathroom units.

Does anyone know if the Kube showroom in Cork is any good?

Showroom impressive - prices crazy and didn't like that the guy went straight in at the deep end trying to sell appliances and telling me how the different glosses were made, was put off and didn't go back with my drawings.

Ended up with Celtic Interiors, in Douglas - gave them my budget, didn't think they could do it as they have won awards and are known to be expensive but they came in on budget €1500 cheaper than their nearest competitor (Stylecraft in Ballincollig). Kitchenworld are also worth a look but the guy Aodain I was dealing with was new so a bit inexperienced. Cash & Carry - same price as Celtic Interiors !?!?

A few others but my first stop would be Celtic Interiors, best showroom by far and a great kids area, he put on Peppa Pig while he showed me my kitchen on a wall mounted TV - proper powerpoint presentation and I left with a booklet containing pictures from a few angles.

Love your floor tiles - are they hard to keep clean and can I ask what they are called?
