Civil Engineering in UCD

I am a mature student going back to study engineering specifically I am looking at Civil Engineering in UCD and WIT.
I have reseached the WIT course well and would like to know a little more about the UCD course especially the first year content of the course ´DN150 Engineering´ which is not clear from their website.
I have also looked at Engineering in Trinity but the first two years are too generic for me and one can only specialise in year three.
I appreciate any thoughts, opinions or guidance on the above or anything else you feel I should consider.

    Thank you

You're only going to get a biased opinion here, as we're all TCD engineers. I'd say put a post up on the UCD/WIT forums looking for advice specific to those courses.

I'm third year engineering in TCD, and I have (mostly) good things to say about it. I don't see what the problem with having two generic years of engineering is. My experience with employers is that they appreciate that I have a broader understanding, and can actually solve problems, as opposed to I know how to do a specific set of calculations.
In first and second year, you take a few civil modules, and from my own experience, they are as advanced as some of the final year modules in other universities. You do a large amount of maths (Calculus and linear algebra).THe other civil modules are solids and structures, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry(a foundation for other courses) Experimental Methods(This is a combination of departments, but involves things like surveying)
There is also materials in second year, which isn't completely civil, but deals with concrete, steel and others, along with silicon which would be more in the line of electronics.
You still do probably the same amount of work in civil modules here as you would in other degrees in first and second year, but your degree from TCD will leave you in a better position leaving.

There was a heavy focus on Civil Engineering in the first two years, it was horrible.
