I bought a house in 2007 (first time buyer)
do you have to apply for the mortgage interest relief that was introduced in the last budget or do you get the relief automatically?

You need to apply but you probably should have applied when you first took out your mortgage, I'm not sure if there's a limit on how far back you can claim.

Yes you can enter a date a good few years ago, fill out the form online without submitting it and it'll show you how far back you can go...
