Physiotherapist going back to do Medicine??

I'm writing this on behalf of my boyfriend.

He will be finishing his Physiotherapy degree in May and did a sports rehabilitation and injury prevention degree before this one.

In total he's done 7 years in college but is thinking of going back to do medicine. It's always in the back of his mind and he doesn't feel that Physiotherapy has the same opportunities to advance as medicine would have. He also prefers more patient contact than Physio would allow for.

I personally think that he would make a very good doctor. He definitely has the personality for it and his Physio has given him a very good basis too.

I was just wondering if there is anyone on here who is/was in the same position? He doesn't really have anyone to talk to about it and his parents feel that he has enough and should be happy with what he has done so far. I think he will regret not giving it a go. However, he did find the Physio degree tough going after already doing 4 years before that. I don't know if he could mentally and physically cope with another 4 years of study!

Is anyone doing the accelerated 4 year course? What are the hours like etc? Are you able to hold down a job aswell as doing the course? Any information would be greatly appreciated :)

Two people in my class (3rd year medicine, of a 5 year degree) did a physio degree before doing medicine. One of them actually ended up having to repeat a year and is now in 2nd year, the other one seems to be doing fine. In terms of the 4 year course, it seems to be really intense and I don't see how anyone could hold down a job while studying, it is itself almost like a 9-5 job, except you have to study in the evenings on top of it, so his best bet would probably be to get a loan for it.

Trying to do the same myself finishing my BSc next month, did the GAMSAT in March. But I'm 21, don't know if I would be able to do it at after 7 years of college. In any case, there's certainly a lot of different areas you can go specialise in physiotherapy, but if medicine is really what he wants to do and he can financially survive for the next 4 years then why not you only live once!
