Greasy Degreaser

I bought this degreaser from Rose. It's absolutely horrible stuff. It seems to be just ordinary motor diesel (only 5 times the price). It leaves a thick greasy smelly residue on everything it touches (inc. my hands, my bucket, my cleaning rag). I think the only way to get it off the bike is with another degreaser.

    AVOID:(.

Now I'm off to have a hot shower (with the bike:)).

Is it water soluble OP - can you dilute it before use or does it go on neat and then not come off?

Hmm. Maybe I should translate the instructions. I didn't dilute it. Any degreasers I used before just dissolve all the gunk and then rinse off leaving a shiny clean finish. This stuff doesn't seem to be water soluble.

The Fenwicks I use needs to be diluted 10-1 before use - maybe that's the problem?

Dunno. I pop up to Drogheda fairly regularly, so I could drop some up to you if you want it. PM me if you're interested.

No, it doesn't seem to be dilutable.

The problem is simply that it doesn't rinse off easily with water like other degreasers (e.g. the Jizer mentioned above).

This looks excellent - is it suitable for use in a chain cleaner?

I've only used it to clean chains which have been removed from the bike and placed in a basin, so I can't say for sure. Apart from attacking grease, it's fairly benign stuff, so I doubt that it would cause any damage to the chain cleaner casing or brushes.

It has low viscosity, so you might get plenty dripping off the chain after it had passed through the cleaner. And maybe some flying off too, if you backpedalled quickly. So I guess you'd want to backpedal fairly slowly, lean the bike enough to prevent drips falling on your rear wheel rim and place the bike on some old newspaper or just wash the stuff off the ground into a drain afterwards if you're using the biodegradable version.

Does anyone know where you can purchase Jizer degreaser (5 litres can) in Dublin city centre. Does any hardware store srock it?

Found a 500ml can on Halfords, but can't find the 5 litre option (probably only for tradesmen from certain catalogues perhaps?)

Autocare in Windy Arbour carry the 5lt cans.

As an alternative the best degreaser I have used, and its water soluble, is SOC chain degreaser - available from any good motorbike shop.

    I use Autoglym Engine Cleaner

Seems to be the same idea as jizer, spray on - scrub with paint brush - Wash off with water.
