    Just wondering,

Does anyone know a good place to buy guitar strings in bulk
I'm spending a fortune on the bastards.

I almost always use Elixer, would love to be able to just get
a big feckin box of them.
    Ideas?

    Cheers

Our guitarist uses "Strings.ie" I have no experience of the site, as their bass strings are not great value. Judge for yourself.

For any big bulk buys, I use http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/ works out around 40 quid for a 10 pack of D'Addario XL's.

If I'm just buying a couple of sets, I'll normally use strings.ie, especially if I'm picking up a few picks or slides etc.

Can get them, no ones ever asked! DR isn't a popular string but they just changed the distribution so I expect we'll see them getting a little more market share.

Thanks Stetyrrell. We have those XL ten packs. Hope to have a little better pricing on them soon.

Possibly not in Ireland alright. It's just that you stock others in the DR range.

Elixir do a 3 pack box, we're due more in later this month. If you want a box (12 sets) drop us an email at strings@strings.ie and we'll order you one in ;)

Unfortunately its very hard to get customers to try anything new, they just want the same strings they have used for years. We've had DR for 3 or 4 years, did a big push but they just haven't made much of an impact. I don't think many shops have them so people never heard of them or saw the packaging/brand.
Having a bit of string fetish that I do, I'm always interested in different manufacturers. I guess also, being hand made, DR are more expensive and that puts people off.
I'll add some sunbeams to our next DR order. Any particular gauge? For Bass I assume?

I agree with all you say here. I suppose bass strings are so much dearer than guitar strings generally, that people stick with "the divil they know". ;)

I, however love to experiment. I had used Daddarios for a while, but I found the DR Sunbeams light years better as far as feel and tone are concerned.

It may not be worth your while getting them in. They probably would not sell. I get mine on E Bay for 23 euros incl shipping, so I'm a happy bunny !! ;)

No worries Rigsby, I'll have a look at the pricing on those and see if there's a way to compete. Our government have no interest in Irish businesses being competitive. My blood boils daily

Don from D'Addario here - first post - just a heads up. D'Addario also offers bulk packaging. You can get XL's (.009s, .010s or .011s in Electric) or our Phosphor Bronze sets -(Lights and Med). I'm not sure where you'd obtain them locally but we do have offices in the UK that would be able to steer you in the proper direction. Here's the product page on our site - if you scroll down you'll see the 25 bulk pack version. http://www.daddario.com/DADProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3769&ProductId=13&productname=EXL110_Nickel_Wound__Regular_Light__10_46

The only place I ever saw DR Sunbeams for sale was in "Music Maker"......at 35 euros for a set of four.

Much as I'd like to support Irish shops/sites, a twelve euro difference between that and E Bay (including postage) is just too much.

Was that from a non E.U. ebay seller Rigsby?

Yep ! From a USA seller. Granted, the price varies a lot from seller to seller on E Bay, and they are all in the USA. The seller I deal with is the cheapest. You were correct earlier, when you said that DR's are not widely available in Ireland. Seems they are not widely available in Europe for that matter. No wonder that people are unfamiliar with them. While "Music Maker" seems to have stopped selling DR bass strings (none there when I last visited), they seem to regularly have DR guitar strings in stock.

That's why the Irish retailers prices are so much more. We have to add 23% vat plus import duty and on top of that most of the big string brands are made in the USA and their US dealer pricing is much lower compared with pricing to European dealers. Level playing field it is not :(

Music maker were distributing DR for a while but they never had the strings my customers wanted. Its all changed now and we have access to the full DR range. You might see all DR strings disappear from Music Maker once their stock is all sold. That's probably the case with the bass strings.

I'd be happy to stock more of the DR range if they sold.

Which Elixir strings do you use? I use the Acoustic Polyweb .12s myself, love them.

Have you tried getting in touch with Keynote Music Sales?
They are the distributor in Ireland for Elixir strings so they should be able to help you out. Here is their Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/KeynoteMusicSales
