Looking for an BMW E39 expert mechanic. Suspension knocks and bangs and shudders over small bumps. The problems seem confined to the passenger side. It also feels vague and wooly at speed. Had the front shocks, front shock top mounts, rear control arm and front passenger arb replaced but still the problems persist......any recomendations?

Check ball joints arb links and bushes. Did the problem occur after getting the shocks done? An incorrectly coil/shock assembly can cause knocking noises.

No it was there before the front shocks were replaced. The pasenger front shock was knackered so we thought replacing them would cure the issue. The knocking persists with the front but it is the rear thats causiing most concern now. The rear passenger control arm was replaced less than 800 miles ago as it was badly worn. No other looseness or play was detected at the rear during the replacement

Did you have the ARB links/bushes replaced?

Could be the wishbone/LCA bushes are the balljoints as mentioned above.

Everything is just stabbing the the dark without seeing/hearing it though TBH.

Correct. Lower rear control arm. Fixed by Nissan Doctor.
