Sorry if this has been answered before - read through the HTC One thread but couldn't find it answered.

I'll be getting a HTC One S off a relative soon - upgrade but happy with their iPhone.:) Trouble is they're on 3 bill-pay and I'm on Meteor bill-pay.

I've no problem rooting the device and have done so before on a Hero and Lg Optimus Black. My question is if I root it will it be sim-unlocked as well? Or is there another step I need to go through before my Meteor sim will work?

I noticed in the other thread that some providers are selling the phone sim-unlocked on payg - any chance 3 are doing the same on bill-pay?

Would rather not have to pay for an unlock code. I'd also prefer not to have to flash a custom rom as I've no problem with the SenseUI.

I believe you need to flash the radios to get a sim-unlock, which you'll need S-OFF to do, which hasn't been done yet on the new One devices.

You could always buy an unlock code online for like, $10 :/

Rooting the device won't sim unlock it. I would guess the only way to sim unlock it without an unlock code is a hardware unlock like the HTC Desire S.

The last HTC phone I'm aware of which can be sim unlocked through software is the HTC Desire.

Just to update, bought an unlock code off www.mobifreedom.net for about €12.50.
Made payment and got code by email within ten minutes. Excellent service.
