Hi,

Im wondering about the usc.
I am on a 13 week contract and earn €180 a week. So far i am into my contract about 8 weeks. I have been charged a usc different amounts on and off each week. Is this right? I am assuming not and am thinking of reporting this to revenue as im sick and tired of unneccesary deductions. I say "unneccesary" because, if i am correct here, i shouldnt be paying any usc at all as i earn less than €10,000 in a year (€180*52=€9,360). Would i be correct in saying this?

Cheers,
Squinchy

Your understanding is correct assuming that you have no other source of income - your employer(s) should have received a tax cert from the tax office setting out the USC bands applicable to your circumstances.
If you have no other income source, you are not liable to the USC at all. However, if you have another source, it is possible that you would have some liability each week.

I'd suggest checking with your employer to check if a tax cert was received from the tax office. If not, contact your tax office and give them your PPS number and that of your employer. It should be fixed fairly quickly then.

You can also download a USC calculator [but 'caveat emptor'] from my web page- the address of it is shown under my signature (the moderator doesn't check the accuracy of calculators and doesn't permit them to be linked in the body of a forum response but does allow them to be linked in signatures). As far as I know, you need to be logged in to see signatures.
