Moneyball strategy

Cosmolli was sacked by Liverpool as he did not share the same vision for Liverpool as the owners.

Basically Henry (majority owner) wants to implement the moneyball strategy into Liverpool that he has used to turn a profit with the Boston Redsox.

Esentially this means he will mainly be buying players cheaply who he views as underachieving at their current clubs in the hope that he can sell them on for a profit to a bigger club when they are starting to improve into a decent player.

The aim is to turn Liverpool into a selling club!

Kenny has a net spend of £70m to date and the resale value of his signings has clearly decreased (Carroll, Downing, Henderson).

Considering the money the top 4 are spending (and spurs young team) and the gaping holes in the financial fair play rules, with Henrys plans for Liverpool it is looking unlikely we will have champions league football in the next decade!

It may be time to let Henry know he cant reduce a club of Liverpools stature and history to a selling club and expect to increase revenue from gate receipts and merchandising before he implements the strategy after failing to bring in a solid first team with which to integrate his speculative signings into.

The only vote that counts is the one you do with your wallet!

No, this is not at all what the principle of Moneyball is.

Moneyball involves the examination of statistics in relation to players in order to gain an advantage. It boils down to finding the players who will theoretically ensure enough wins to be successful.

In football, this is harder to do because of the fluidity of the game and the increased number of variables.

The aim was to buy certain players e.g Downing, who had high rates of crossing, in the hopes that theoretically Andy Carroll would be able to put the ball into the net from them.
