I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times before but can someone tell me if there is a charge for calling an ambulance and availing of the service?

I've talked to people who said it's free and others who said it costs 450 euro per call out... Seems a bit excessive.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

No charge for an Emergency Ambulance.

E450 wouldn't likely cover costs even if there was a charge, if you consider salaries, initial training and ongoing training, vehicle purchase, fuel etc are all factored in.

No, there is no charge per se for dialling 999 & calling for an emergency ambulance. If it's an intra hospital transfer & your a private patient, yes you will be charged. Whoever told you it costs 450euro per call out is talking through their arse!!.

No Charge for the Ambulance but you will get charged E100 for attending the A&E.

In RTA cases it is now HSE policy to ' claw back ' from insurance companies the cost of treatment - does this policy extend to Ambulance call outs ?

Sorry to change topic, but I'm wondering if anyone can clarify what happens when you call out a fire brigade for a fire that you happen on? My dad was driving in his car one day and came across a fire in someone's shed and had to call the brigade as it was a bad one and he's wondering now will he be billed for this or the people who own the shed??

No, not to him, only to the register landowner, property owner, vehicle owner...etc.
don't ever be deterred form calling out the fire service in your area, if you see a fire weather it be in your house/car/land or someone elses...... call them out, get them out, and then have it out -with the local authority later!!

it's better to sort these things and worry about these things at a later stage, with a clearer head.

Oh I totally agree! There were two men who came across this fire but the other man was of ye belief that he would have to pay of he called so he hesitated.
My dad obviously rang straight away anyway! But after he told me the story and I couldn't understand how on earth he would be billed for doing the right thing!

The thought that someone would reconsider saving the life of their fellow man in case it might impact on their bank balance is a very sad reflection on our society.

It was a burning shed, no one's life was in danger.

And it's the penny pinching bean counters putting charges on emergency services that are risking lives not the poor sap whose afraid of getting a bill for several hundred Euro for doing the right thing.

The fire was huge. There was also a delay in the brigade arriving because of the terribly poor service of the call centre my dad got through to when he called (nothing to do with the actual fire brigade they were brilliant but the national 999 call centre). Hence the fire spread very quickly and required five brigades in the end which had to work on it for hours. The shed was right beside the house which was right beside the road so yea I do have to agree with the other poster that yes it is an awful sad state that someone could hesitate in reporting such a dangerous incident.
