Voipgain caller ID incorrect

I was setting up a Voipgain account for someone during the week. The person wanted their landline caller ID to show up on the receiving end, which seems to be possible on Voipgain's website by verifying the number (it calls you back and speaks a code down the phone which you enter into the website). However when I did this, rather than the caller ID showing up as "+353 1 85xxxxx" it was showing up as "+1 353 1 85xxxxx" so it was, of course, being treated as a US/Canada number. The spaces don't show up, I just put them in for clarity.

Is this a configuration error or is it something I should be contacting Voipgain about?

    Hi Karsini,

Here is the help guide given to wrong caller id's:
Incorrect calling ID We try to offer the cheapest phone calls possible but we also strive to achieve the best possible quality.

Calls are sent via a complex system of international routes and telecom companies and due to the complexity of some connections, technical problems may occur. We utilise the most up-to-date technology to ensure top quality connections, however it may be possible that overseas carriers have different quality standards.

Should you often experience the same problems with your calls (in this case the person you called saw an incorrect caller ID) please fill out the next form as detailed as possible; with this information our technical staff can trace the call and take measures to prevent future problems. Thank you for helping us to improve our connections!

From my own experience there is probably something wrong somewhere in the line, that may not be under voipgains control. Are you sure you setup the caller ID correctly and saved it? Try it on your mobile caller ID and see if its any different? Try on your landline (if you have one, anything with a local prefix, thats charged the same).

This is something you should be contacting VoipGain about really once you have done the above.

With regard to regulations to wrong CLI, the Federal Communications Commision have a document on it, this may be something you may want to bring to your providers attention as they are showing the wrong CLI and its from a US number.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for the reply. If I call my mobile from the VoipGain service, it shows up as "Blocked" or "Unknown" by default. If I log into the VoipGain website I can get the following option:

    200379.png

(the mobile is an 085 Meteor number while the landline is an 01 number)

If I click the "Verify selected number" button, I get a call to that number which speaks a 4 digit PIN down the phone. I then need to enter that PIN to authorise the caller ID. However, after doing this, when I call my mobile I get the incorrect ID showing up. I haven't tested it on a landline as of yet, I suppose that's my next port of call. (no pun intended, oops)

The VoipGain account is only being used for outgoing calls, the ISDN is also being routed through the ATA so incoming calls are fed via ISDN and outgoing calls via VoIP. I'd prefer to have the caller ID working rather than blocking it, as I know many people are iffy about taking calls from blocked numbers.

    • Try putting in 003531XXXXXXX instead of +3531XXXXXXX
    • The fact that your using an ATA behind an ISDN standard RJ11 won't make a difference.
    • Try testing it with an ISDN/landline number
    • Try Calling a landline from the ATA and see what comes up
    • Try calling a mobile from the ata and see what comes up with the landline CLI
Check the ATA administration page for any Caller ID, and remove the CLI if it is entered, however this shouldn't be sent through to the PSTN as voipgain should block sending CLI from the ata.

If you are still having issues than you need to contact voipgain. Perhaps you could try a different provider? I do know that voipgain do have good mobile rates :)

Let us know how you get on.

The CLI seems to be correct now. I entered the number as 00353 rather than +353. When I submitted the form, it accepted the entry but changed it back to +353 in the text field. I tried again and it was still showing up as +1 353, but I then disabled CLI and enabled it again. It's now showing up correctly.

Lets hope it stays that way. :)
