    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas. One of the cylinders is not firing.

Coil pack went on One a few weeeks ago.- - changed then working fine.
Same symptons are back- sluggish and not enough power

While car is running disconnected each coil pack individually and 2nd from right is not firing.

    - Changed coil pack twice and moved around diff ones so they are fine - no joy
    - new sparks - no joy
    - checked spark while car running and spark is fine
Just did oil change also while doing everythin else but is cylinder fudged? What options do i have. Any ideas boardies?
    Thanks in advance

Is there spark to that cylinder?
Is there fuel to that cylinder? Injector may be defective.
What is the compression on that cylinder/rest of the cylinders.?

If its not firing then its either no fuel, low/no compression or lack of spark.
The coil packs go on those engines if the spark plug gaps get too big for a long period of time such as not replacing the plugs when they wear.

Hi CJ, Thanks for reply. Forgot to mention. bit of a newbie with cars but getting there:-) but thanks for help

Just checked again there. The spark is working. There is some sort of combustion or compression coming out the top.( sorry i really dont know the lingo)

What is the compression on that cylinder/rest of the cylinders.?
    - a little bit advanced for me sorry

Maybe it is firing and it is a damaged piston or something is that possible?

I know its cheap shot ,but buy some fuel injector cleaner and pour it into fuel tank and go for a long spin :].

    Yes its possible.
The best thing you can do is take it to a garage with a compression tester and see what compression you are getting on each cylinder.
If they are all OK, then the problem is fuel or spark.
A good garage should be able to diagnose it reasonably easily.

got a diagnotic tool from a friend and it gave 3 errors

Code P0303 - Misfire Detected in #3 Cylinder
Code P0130 - Oxygen Sensor Malfunction
Code P1346 - Variable Valve Timing Sensor / Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range / Performance

Gonna get another camshaft sensor from scrapyard tomorrow and check her out

    Just to follow up.
    replaced camshaft sensor
all errors gone bar misfire on cylinder 3.
gonna try fuel injector - see what happens:)

He means a lot of people get advice and dont come back to let the board know how they got on, and if it worked.

He means that so many people post a question like yours, get lots of suggestions, then disappear so you never hear if they got it sorted or not.

In your case, if you have spark and compression then it has to be a fuelling problem(injector, injector wiring). Its very unlikely to be anything more serious otherwise you'd have much worse symptoms then a simple misfire.

    Oh right:-)

Skipped the inverter as i was able to get a compression test done by a friend
Cylinder 3 has ZERO compression - This makes me sad:-(

Zero? Are you sure? I'm no mechanic, but i'd have thought it'd be running like an absolute bag of nails on only three cylinders?

ya Anan, hooked up the compression tester and nothing:-(
Bag of nails is pretty close. constantly dropping a gear to get her going. Car starts shakin like its having a fit also sometimes

If it has no compression at all then you have to be looking at a damaged/bent valve. Any issue with piston rings etc would still create some compression.

Ideally you need a leakdown test done as this will tell you where the cylinder pressure is going.

Thats a bugger, what are the rest of the cylinders reading?

If it was the value how much is that to replace cos there's a bit of rippin isnt there?

The leakdown test etc is not a lot of work and will tell you exactly what the problem is before anything is stripped.

Have a look here below for an idea of what's involved in repairing valves(although not all aspects would be relevent to your case)
