    Hi there-

Looking for info on the Galway Driving Range in Salthill. Intensive googling has yielded zero info on opening times and price for a bucket of balls.. Has anyone experienced the set-up there?

Are driving ranges in general welcoming to non-member fair weather drop in types?

Was in there a couple of times last year but not a local so can't give you exact info. Open from 11am I think (maybe earlier?) til evening. Prices were much the same as most ranges iirc, roughly €3 for 25 balls, €6 for 50 etc. Open to the public, so anyone can use it.

Finding it wasn't easy as I didn't see any signs - drive out from Salthill past the Golf Club, turn left at the entrance to Bayview Camping, the range is down the same entrance on the left.

There's two other ranges in the Galway area just in case you are closer to them. One at the Glenlo Abbey Hotel (This hotel closed recently but think it has reopened since) on the road out to Moycullen and one in the Galway Bay Golf Club in Renville out passed Oranmore (This one is outdoors off grass, so need the weather to go). I think all roughly €1/10balls price range.
One in salthill is open till 10 each I night I think.

I have never seen any signs suggesting that they do, so don't think so. Your best bet might be Glenlo cause they might have sets for hotel guests to use on the golf course.

I was there a couple of weeks back and a customer borrowed a couple of clubs. The entrance is just past the Spinnaker pub on the left going out of Salthill. Nice enough place, welcoming to all.

Nice one guys. Just wanted to get an idea of the vibe down there. Ya know....wether it's welcoming and smiley to randomers Vs. snooty and look down nose uponing...

Went down there the last day. Works a treat. No fuss involved at all. the rubber tees seemed ridiculously high but that's probably my ignorance.

    €2 for 20
    €4 for 45
    €6 for 70 etc..

p.s I forget the opening times but I think it's open until 9p.m most evenings.

Nice spot, but I live on other side of the city so find it hard most evenings to cross out. Im a member of Cregmore Park and there's an all-timber driving range there that opened this year - ten bays €3 for 30, €5 for 60 balls and so on. Not sure what times they are open but check their website I'm sure they are on it. :)

    €2 = 20, €3 = 30, €4 = 40 - got 40 this evening but if I remember correctly they start offering discount deals at €5...

Does anyone if the Driving Range in Salthill is still open? Went down tonight for 1st time in ages and it was closed up

It could be seasonal and only open on the weekends during the winter. There was a generic timetable on the wall of the Range hunt with the little putting warm up place when I was there last summer.

Looks to be closed alright. Rumored that the owners (NAMA) tried a rent\lease hike and the sitting tenant Adrian Wallace wasn't having it.

Pity because the range was well run, good value and Adrian is a really nice guy. A few pros giving lesson out of there will have to relocate.

Hopefully they can renegotiate and reopen soon.

Ya it's closed alright. Does anyone know what the story is with the range in Glenlo? Is that open at the moment? I think they were doing some work on it recently, anyone know any more about this?

Called into Glenlo earlier and there is a sign up saying driving range closed till April due to renovations. Hopefully they get it going sooner as the nearest range to me seems to be Cregboy

    Thanks for that Jimmy,

The news of Salthill being closed should really put the fire under Glenlo to try get sorted and get the range open ASAP as there's surely money to be made when you're the only range in the city. I'd be expecting fairly big things from the course and range at Glenlo this year as Gary Madden has taken it over and he's a serious golf coach and I've no doubt he'd only go in there if he had intentions of doing a really good job on it.

Glenlo Range open again. Did a great job. 100% better mats, bays, balls, range layout. Prices average. 60 balls for €6, discount for bigger spends etc.

Drove down there this evening for a look. They are closed. There's a sign up on the gate saying that they are in receivership.

    Hi Tilikum,

We did indeed! We have undergone an extensive refurbishment and now have extended our Driving Range to 21 Bays - both indoor and outdoor.
We use new quality two piece range balls, with 100% compression which optimize feedback - giving a better experience.

    Warm regards,
    Vicky
