I have a nibe 1140 and my total esb usage for past 3 months was 5840 units. I think this is quite alot. Are there recommended settings for the time when heat pump switches on and for how long? Where can I find these in the menu?
    I have a dormer, 3,500 sqft.:(

The installer and the planner of the heating system are the only ones who can tell you that.

A.)How much electricity was used to provide the heatpump and how much thermal energy was produced by it ? With this answer we can figure out the COP during this time.
B.)During which time at which place (next city, town) this consumption did happen? With this answer we can figure out the number of heating degree days and then compare these with the (theoretical)performance of alternative heating methods.

When was the heating system the last time maintained, what was done? Was a protocol handed over?

I have an installation manual with maintenance instructions. It tells you what things are, but quite vague and does not recommend anything.

Was last maintained in Jan this year and was given a once over then, nothing much said then

Was the maintenance protocol handed over? Was the hydraulic adjustment checked?
You have a legal right to the maintenance protocol.

There is more than a thermal energy provider to maintained (here:the heat pump) but an entire heating system.

Was this recent 'high' bill for the HP only or were other consumers supplied via this bill as well?
From your Nickname and the joining date I take it that the HP is several years old, where the other bills similar?

There are heating engineers out there (golden pages) as well as independant HP specialists. Maybe they should have look. But you have to provide them with technical informations like lay-out, planning etc...

    Hi CarloSelfBuild,

Are you able to open the service menu?
if not then do the following:
Go to menu 8.0, press arrow key 3 times, press + twice, press arrow key once, then rotate the offset dial (-2 to 2 dial) left and right to return to menu 2.0. This will have tuned the mode from normal to service.

Look up and following and record
    1.10 hot water run time
    5.6 number of starts
    5.9 comp acc run time
    9.1.3 add heat run time.

From these i can see how your heat pump is running!
Do you know when it was started?
