Anyone else got a problem with reception fading out at 6pm then coming back at 7pm the last couple of weeks? All the RTE channels are the same.

    Hi there,
Can you tell me a little more about your issue please.

    Can you tell me

    • what part of the county you are in
    • What type of receiver are you using
    • What Radio service are you listing to when the issue happens
    • when you re-tune to a different radio service on DAB does that service tune in?
    • Is the entire ensembkle simply missing between 1800-1900
Any further info would be very helpful.

    Regards

    Dave

    Hi there,
Can you tell me a little more about your issue please.

    Can you tell me

    • what part of the county you are in
      Rush, Co Dublin
    • What type of receiver are you using
      Technika FM/DAB Radio
    • What Radio service are you listing to when the issue happens
RTE Choice, RTE Extra, RTE R1 DAB services
    • when you re-tune to a different radio service on DAB does that service tune in?
      No
    • Is the entire ensembkle simply missing between 1800-1900
Yes, the radio only picks up RTE DAB channels so that's the entire ensemble missing between 1800-1900 then at 1900 it fades back in.
Any further info would be very helpful.

Dave, I have a Revo iBlik and I often get gaps in transmission like today at 15:50, 2FM on DAB went blank for a few seconds, no bubbling noise like bad reception, just total stop and resume as if the radio had been switched off and on again. I'm receiving FM from Three Rock so I guess that's where my DAB comes from as well.

Even more, I have a Tivoli Audio DAB..

I'm line of sight to Clermont Carn and less than 10km to the antenna, yet BBC DAB (which I don't have line of sight to) comes in better than RTE. RTE is low quality/prone to garbling but I never have this issue with the beeb.

    Few extra watts might help!

Thank you for the info which is very helpful. We have been monitoring this over the course of the last two weekdays and Friday evening. There are no MUX re-configurations at this time on the weekend, whereas there are on the weekdays to facilitate bit rate changes.

We tested on 5 different devices and were unable to replicate the issue you are having. What is odd is the behaviour whereby you mention you are unable to tune any service on the ensemble during this time.

Tomorrow night (wed) can I ask you try to tune to RTE Jr Radio between 1800-1900 and let me know if you can do so.

    Regards
    Dave

    Hi there,
Thank you for letting me know. Can you tell me if the signal strength indicator on your radio remained on whatever power it was on when you experienced the outage or did it drop to zero.

    Regards
    Dave

Wasn't looking but here's another one for you....

I have a radio controlled clock on my desk, I bought it in the Science Museum in London and it picks up the short wave time signal from the UK i.e. it always shows the correct time.

On both yesterday and today at exactly 19:00 the RTE Radio 1 sound dropped to silence for about 8 seconds, then it resumed, in both cases on my Revo iBlik receiving the DAB signal.

Lyric FM just went silent at 18:00:08 for about 6 seconds. You guys in RTE are definitely doing something bang on the hour and it's affecting DAB transmission.

Again today (Apr 30th), Lyric went silent at 18:00:06 for 9 seconds on DAB. My preferred FM frequency for R1 is 88.5 so I assume I'm also getting DAB from 3Rock.

Edit: I flicked over to Radio1 at 19:00:05, it was silent and came back at 19:00:17.

    Hi all,
Perhaps you could check again this evening between 1800-1900. We have made some additional changes that hopefully will rectify. Any feedback will be greatly apreciated.
Unfortunately all our test devices are unable to replicate the issue. That is not to say there is no issue, there clearly is. Lets see what happens tonight.

    Regards

    Dave

Dave, missed your post today. You'd been silent for two weeks (since April 17th) so in turn I wasn't checking the forum every day.

I will check on Wednesday at 18:00 and 19:00. Unlike the other poster, I've only encountered a few seconds silence bang on the hour, at 18:00 and 19:00.
